The Northern Connecticut Girls' Softball League
2013 SEASON SUMMARY
The year marked the 16th season of NCGSL summer softball.
In its second year governed by USSSA, the league increased in size to 33 teams, up from 29 in 2012. A total of 477 players were registered from the 14 active member towns with over 40% (194) being first-year players. Nine towns (Coventry, East Hartford, Enfield, Glastonbury, Granby, Hebron, Northwest, Vernon and West Hartford) entered teams in both the High School and Middle School divisions.
A 12U age division replaced the 11U from 2012 and fielded 102 players on seven teams. Northwest finished with a 10-2 record to win the regular season. Windsor defeated Somers 8-2 in the final to win their season-ending tournament, held August 10-11th at the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Club field complex in East Hartford.
The Middle School Division had 148 players on ten teams. East Hartford (9-5) and Enfield (14-0) won their respective divisions in the regular season. Enfield capped their undefeated season with an exciting 9-8 victory over Northwest in their tournament final at PWAC in East Hartford.
The High School Division had 16 teams with 227 registered players. East Hartford (14-0) and West Hartford (11-2) finished first in their divisions in the regular season. The same two teams faced off in the tournament final with East Hartford taking a 5-1 decision and also finishing the summer with no losses.
Seven teams made up the 14U Fall League, with games at McAuliffe Park in East Hartford on Saturday mornings in September and October. Coventry finished first with a 12-1-1 record.
