2005 East Bay Invitational By The Bay




NCGSL's Enfield Fireballs U-14 team, coached by Joe Cannella and Lance Miles, traveled the weekend of July 9th - 10th to participate in the East Bay Invitational By The Bay held in Bristol, Rhode Island. The tournament was well-run and, except for Friday, the weather was perfect. All games were five innings, due to the rain delay from Friday.

Saturday, Game 1
Enfield Fireballs 6, Westford (MA) Waves 6. The Fireballs tied the first game with Courtney Cannella pitching and Natalie Kyparidis behind the plate. Amanda Meunier had two hits, Britni Siana had a double and Tori Benoit had an RBI-single.

Saturday, Game 2
Reading (MA) Rebels 11, Enfield Fireballs 9. Enfield was edged by Reading in the second game as Amanda Meunier continued her hot hitting with a triple and a single. Natalie Kyparidis pitched well and had a single. Megan Chipman, Shawna Lothian and Ashley Poggie all hit well for Enfield. The Fireballs rallied to tie it in the fourth, but the Rebels took the lead for good in the fifth.

Saturday, Game 3
Enfield Fireballs 13, Halifax (MA) 4. Enfield came on strong in their third game, defeating Halifax 13-4. Courtney Cannella pitched the win with Megan Chipman catching. Britni Siana led the offense with two triples and a single and also made an impressive diving catch at shortstop. Ashley Poggie had three hits, Shawna Lothian had two and Natalie Kyparidis had an RBI-single. Rebecca Scanlon, pinch running, scored the first run to tie the game in a 6-run rally. Jenn Serafin and Christine Scanlon added key defensive plays that helped seal the win.

Sunday, Single Elimination
Warwick (RI) Angels 10, Enfield Fireballs 0. On Sunday morning, the Fireballs faced the Warwick Angels and came up short. Lindsey Deford pitched well in relief of Courtney Cannella , with Natalie Kyparidis as their batterymate. Britni Siana and Courtney both hit triples and Natalie also had a hit. Katie Krogmann played well in centerfield, ending an inning with a nice catch.

As part of the tradition of the East Bay Invitational, after each game the team selects a player from the opposing team as an MVP for that game. For the four games played, the opponents selected Amanda Meunier, Britni Siana, Courtney Cannella and Tori Benoit at the MVPs for the Fireballs.
