2001 U-16 SCHEDULE and GAME SUMMARIES
- Monday, June 25th
Stafford 3, West Hartford 2. Stafford opened with a win as Marcie Boldi earned the victory and helped her own cause at the plate with a triple. Britney Church and Michelle Syphers led the defense. Heather Corrigan pitched well for West Hartford and Michelle Ribeiro had a good game behind the plate. Katherine Albright led the hitters with a double.
Vernon 15, Tolland 0. Lauren Person pitched a one-hitter as Vernon blanked Tolland. Shannon Clancy had two hits, 3 RBI and scored two runs. Colleen McNamara also had a pair of hits. Lindsey DuBosar pitched well for Tolland and Larissa Jesanis had a good game on defense. Melissa Pivonka accounted for the lone hit.
South Windsor 9, Suffield 1. South managed only two hits but came away with the win in a close game except for a 6-run third inning. Jess Oliva allowed 3 hits and fanned nine batters. Shortstop Stacy Collins denied Suffield with an unassisted double play.
Enfield 4, Simsbury 1. Annie Tarbox pitched the complete game win, striking out seven, as Enfield won it's opener at home. Samantha Eck turned in great defense in the outfield as well as at second base. Jess Savino recorded 12 Ks in the loss. Jen Burns tallied two of Simbury's hits.
Ellington 14, Bolton 4. Starter Ashley Gioia combined with
Vanessa Russell, Kelly Sommariva and Alyssa Skewes to pitch Ellington past Bolton. Chris Frank had a good night in center field, keying an inning-ending double play. Ashley Morgan, Amanda Soder and Chris Frank led the team in batting and alert baserunning. Jen Shea and Lisa Irish pitched well for Bolton. Kelly Agnew reached base three times with a hit and two walks.
Somers 19, Hebron 4. The Somers Titans opened with a 19-4 win at home. Kristine Anderson, Sarabeth Thorne and Brianne Nyquist turned in good defensive efforts in support of winning pitcher Sarah Hills. Hills went the distance for the Titans, giving up two hits, walking five and striking out eight. For Hebron, Alyssa Eisenberg was tough on the basepaths, scoring two of Hebron's runs. Danielle Dupont singled and Kara Pinto singled and scored for the visitors.

- Wednesday, June 27th
Stafford 10, Tolland 0. Stafford blanked visiting Tolland 10-0 behind Marcie Boldi's nine strikeout pitching effort. Danielle Lappen went 3 for 4 at the plate and Michelle Syphers tripled. Laura Filipek and Melissa Pivonka led the Tolland hitters and Samantha Morrow played well on defense.
Vernon 8, South Windsor 3. Michelle Reichert went the distance as Vernon downed South by a score of 8 to 3. Melissa DeBarge had a double and Amanda Viens singled twice. Stacy Collins and Amanda Karagianis had good games for South Windsor.
Simsbury 8, Ellington 0. Jessica Savino pitched a no-hitter, striking out 13 and walking four, as Simsbury shut out visiting Ellington. Savino also helped her own cause with a triple. Kim Trimble and Liz Mikkelson each had a pair of hits for the winners. Kelly Sommariva pitched effectively in relief for Ellington, allowing no runs. Marie Wilcox and Ashley Gioia had good games defensively.
West Hartford 9, East Windsor 5. Starter Heather Corrigan and reliever Abby Johnson combined to pitch West Hartford past host East Windsor. They also delivered key hits, as did Theo Dworak, Sheri Brick and Michele Ribeiro. Ashley O'Brien pitched well in the loss, supported on defense by Julie Lech. Julie Tetreault's triple led the East hitters.
Hebron 10, Bolton 8. The Hebron Express pick up their first win over Bolton by a score of 10 to 8. Jill Mangan recorded 11 Ks as the winning pitcher. Brittany Christensen had a double and Kristin VonHone knocked in the deciding runs. Jen Shea went 3 for 3 and pitched well for Bolton. Kim Toledo had two hits and Stephanie Maynard played well in the field.
Suffield at Enfield postponed to Wednesday, July 25th.
- Monday, July 2nd
Vernon 3, West Hartford 2. Vernon won a close game on the road as Cat Carter doubled in the last inning and scored on a bunt single by Danielle Deschamps. Mary Gordon had two hits and capped a strong pitching performance with a key strikeout in West Hartford's final at-bat. Abby Johnson pitched a great game for West. Michele Ribeiro had a good night behind the plate and Katie Albright let the offense.
Tolland 11, Suffield 4. Rebecca Fuller struck out 15 Suffield hitters as Tolland won its first game of the season. Samantha Morrow went 3 for 3 and Danielle Ostien played well defensively at first base. Catcher Megan Gaedje also had a good night, allowing only one past ball. Deedee Presser knocked in all four Suffield runs, going 3 for 3 at the plate. Jessica Doane also had three hits and Marisa Packard added two.
Enfield 18, Bolton 0. Enfield defeated visiting Bolton in a game ended after five innings. Pitcher Annie Tarbox recorded 10 strikeouts and hit a grandslam homerun to lead the winners. Liz Mullin had a double and two singles with 3 RBI. Jen Shea pitched well for Bolton. Ashley Moske led the hitters and also fielded well and Kim Toledo added a double.
Somers 16, Ellington 1. Somers bested host Ellington 16-1. The Titans were led by Ashley Mazzoli's pitching of four no-hit innings in which she struck out six batters and walked none. Katie Skypek was superb behind the plate and led another fine defensive effort by Somers. Emily Jacobs robbed an Ellington batter of a hit with a nice running catch in right field to end the second inning. For Ellington, Kelly Sommariva did a good job pitching in relief. Felicia Kellner made several good defensive plays and Katie Harty hit the ball well.
Hebron 20, East Windsor 12. The Hebron Express won its home opener, 20-12 over East Windsor. Heather Spada paced the Express with two doubles, a single and 4 RBIs. Brittany Christensen and Allyssa Eisenberg each hit triples. Pitcher Jill Mangan helped herself with a single and a double. Julie Lech doubled for East Windsor. Ashley O'Brien pitched well in relief and Kerry Stoecker had a good game on defense.
Simsbury 5, South Windsor 2. Visiting Simsbury outscored South Windsor in a tight pitcher's duel. Jessica Savino earned the win, allowing 6 hits and walking one while striking out 11. Kerry Gotowka and Kim Trimble each had a pair of hits. For South, Jess Oliva fanned 13 batters while allowing 9 hits and walking three. Danielle Spiro and Diana Gamache each had a hit and played solid defense.
- Friday, July 6th
East Windsor 21, Ellington 11.(see photos) East Windsor defeated host Ellington as Erin Stoecker drove in 5 runs with a triple and a double. Jennifer Whitehead also tripled and doubled. Julie Tetreault starred on defense as a relief catcher. For Ellington, Ashley Gioia tripled and doubled. Robin Tripp also had two hits and Amanda Soder led the defense.
Tolland 4, Simsbury 0. Tolland went on the road and shut out Simsbury by a score of 4-0. Rebecca Fuller earned the win, striking out 14 batters. She also went 2 for 2 at the plate. Laura Filipek hit a 2-run double to lead the offense. Danielle Ostien tripled and Mhairi-Kate McKeegan singled. Ostien and McKeegan were also the defensive leaders. Simsbury received another stellar pitching performance from Jessica Savino (17 Ks). Kerry Gotowka and Jen Burns each had a hit in the loss.
Stafford 4, Hebron 3. Stafford sidetracked the Express and improved to 3-0. Jessi Zeigler pitched three excellant innings in relief, allowing no hits and striking out five. Victoria Butler and Amanda Syme each tripled to lead the hitters. For Hebron, Brittany Christensen scored a pair of runs. Kara Pinto pitched well and Danielle Dupont had a good game on defense.
Enfield 11, Somers 5. Enfield won the nightcap of a U-14/U-16 twi-night twinbill at Somers. Stephanie Montville, Amanda Michaud and Nicole Jones provided the offense. The Somers hitters were led by Kristine Anderson and Jenn Brown. Katie Skypek had a good game in the field.
West Hartford 18, Suffield 17. West Hartford evened its record as Katie Albright went 5 for 6 at the plate. Theo Dworak had 3 hits and scored 4 runs and Erica Stankoski had 2 hits with 3 runs scored. Deedee Presser and Kristi Goulding each had 3 hits for Suffield. Caitlin Woods went 2 for 3.
South Windsor 26, Bolton 13. Amanda Boileau's 5 for 5 hitting led visiting South past Bolton. Liz Harrison and Amanda Karagianis each added four hits to the barrage. Jen Shea pitched well for Bolton while Lisa Irish and Heather Wright had good games defensively.
- Monday, July 9th
Tolland 17, East Windsor 12. Rebecca Fuller struck out eight in 4 innings pitched as Tolland won its third straight. Danielle Ostien homered and drove in 3 runs. Alyson Gromak hit a 2-run single and Vanessa Penton tripled. East Windsor got good defensive play from Erin Stoecker and Julie Lech. Meagan Nelson doubled to lead the hitters.
Vernon 8, Enfield 2. In a battle of unbeatens, Vernon came away with the win over Enfield. Lauren Person had 16 strikeouts and also hit a 2-run homer. Shannon Clancy clubbed a 3-run homerun and Tawny Boulanger had three hits. Melissa DeBarge hit a key RBI double and Leighann Caron had 2 hits and made a nice catch in centerfield. Annie Tarbox went 2 for 3 for Enfield. Kristy Farnan and Jessica Browne played well defensively.
Simsbury 17, Hebron 0. Simsbury won at home in five innings as Jessica Savino and Jessie Serafin combined on a 2-hitter with ten strikeouts and no walks. Kerry Gotowka (4 for 4), Leah Seltzer (2 for 3, 3 RBI) and Jess Savino (homerun) headed the Simsbury attack. Allyssa Eisenberg went 1 for 2 for the Express. Laura McDonnell and Stephanie Brown played solid defense.
Somers 7, West Hartford 6. In a seesaw battle in Somers that saw five lead changes, the Titans needed a 7th inning rally to defeat a stingy West Hartford defense. Rachel Clark drove in the game winning run with a bases-loaded single. She also laid down a nice bunt in the 3rd inning to advance two runners that later scored. Emily Jacobs had two singles, scoring on the first and knocking in a run with the other. Lindsay Cunningham also scored for the Titans. Abby Johnson pitched well in the loss. Theo Dworak tripled and scored twice and Erica Stankoski had two hits and also scored twice. West Hartford had a strong 6th inning, scoring four runs, forcing the Titans to come from behind to win.
South Windsor 5, Stafford 1. South Windsor went on the road and handed Stafford their first loss with a 5-1 decision. Jen Wallace led South with a fine defensive effort behind the plate. Melissa Beane played outstanding defense at shortstop and Christine Lemieux limited her opponents to a single run in pitching the win. Stacey Beebe had a good game at catcher for Stafford. Victoria Butler and Amanda Litvinchyk delivered key hits.
Suffield 20, Ellington 15. Suffield notched its first win with a home victory over Ellington. Moira Cahill and Caitlin Woods had the hot bats and Jessica Doane led the Suffield defense. Michelle Burinskas, Tara Heffernan and Robin Tripp had good games for Ellington.
- Wednesday, July 11th
Tolland 8, Hebron 0.(see photos) Tolland won its fourth in a row as Rebecca Fuller pitched the second no-hitter of the U-16 season. She also did well at the plate, going 2 for 3. Danielle Ostien had an RBI single and played good defense at first base. Megan Gaedje and Laura Konikowski also hit RBI singles. Samantha Morrow had an RBI triple and also made the defensive play of the game at third base in the final inning to preserve the no-no. Jill Mangan struck out seven hitters in taking the loss. Stephanie Smith played well in the field and Danielle Dupont almost spoiled the no-hitter with the hard hit ball to Morrow in the last inning.
Vernon 19, Somers 9. Vernon visited Somers and came away with a 19-9 decision highlighted by Sherri Gandini's grandslam homer. Shannon Clancy (a double and 2 singles) and Leighann Caron (double and single) provided additional offense. Emily Jacobs and Sarah Hills each had hits for Somers. Ashley Mazzoli pitched well in relief for the Titans.
Enfield 27, East Windsor 1. Stephanie Montville pitched an excellant game as Enfield won on the road. Amanda Farnan doubled and Megan Macsata had 2 RBI. For East, Meagan Nelson pitched very well and Erin Stoecker had a good game in the field. Allyson Pitney knocked in the lone run.
South Windsor 11, West Hartford 7. Diana Gamache and Kelli Wallace each had three hits to lead South past West. Christine Lemieux pitched well in relief for the visitors. Erica Stankoski pitched a good game for West Hartford. Theo Dworak and Michele Ribeiro both hit doubles.
Stafford 13, Bolton 5. Stafford traveled to Bolton and emerged as winners behind the bats of Jessi Zeigler, Amy Syphers, Victoria Butler and Stacey Beebe. Britney Church led the defensive effort. Marcy Manning pitched well for Bolton and Stephanie Maynard had a good night on both sides of her game.
Simsbury 17, Suffield 0. Jess Savino and Jessie Serafin combined to pitch the shutout at Suffield. Amanda Cleveland (3 hits), Kerry Gotowka (3 hits) and Jen Burns (2 hits) carried Simsbury's offense. Amber Lacivita, Deedee Presser and Jess Doane had good defensive games for Suffield.
- Friday, July 13th
Enfield 6, Stafford 1. Annie Tarbox (11 Ks) pitched a complete game and also hit a homerun to lead Enfield past visiting Stafford. Amanda Michaud and Karyn Palomba supplied more offense with two hits apiece. Lauren Gagnon went 2 for 2 and Danielle Lappen tripled to pace Stafford. Barbara Thibeault played well on the defensive side.
Tolland 6, Somers 1. Tolland won at home behind the 15-strikeout effort of Rebecca Fuller, who also went 2 for 2 at the plate. Laura Filipek's 2-run single started the scoring with Mhairi-Kate McKeegan and Jess Grabowicz each adding RBI singles. Danielle Ostien and Aly Gromak both hit singles and made fine defensive plays. Emily Jacobs and Sarah Hills got the lone Somers hits.
Vernon 9, Ellington 5. Vernon won at Ellington to improve its record to 6-0 behind the 3-hit pitching of Michelle Reichert, who also doubled at the plate. Colleen McNamara had an RBI single and Michelle LaBoda played great defense at third base. Vanessa Russell pitched well for Ellington. Karyn Deptula singled and Heidi Hodgkins had a good game defensively.
West Hartford 22, Bolton 4. Visiting Bolton came on strong, scoring three runs in the first inning, but was unable to continue its offensive production. Jill Cetel earned the win for West Hartford, backed by the offensive support of Julia Cohn (double and triple) and Sheri Brick (5 runs scored with 5 at bats). Ashley Moske and Marcy Manning had good defensive games for Bolton.
South Windsor 11, East Windsor 10.(see photos) East Windsor's comeback from an 11-5 deficit after 5 innings fell just short as South pulled out the win under the lights at Rye Street Park. Jen Wallace doubled and singled and also had a good night behind the plate on defense. Lawren Roulier (2 for 3) and Liz Harrison (2 hits and 2 walks) supplied more South offense. After a 3-run sixth inning, East pulled to within one on a 2-run double by Erin Stoecker. Lisa Ladany had one hit and Meagan Nelson played well in the field.
Hebron 7, Suffield 0. Forfeit by Suffield due to insufficient players.
- Wednesday, July 18th
South Windsor 3, Tolland 0. In a game that was 1-0 going into the 7th inning, South Windsor prevailed in an old-fashioned pitcher's duel. Jess Oliva tossed a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts. Danielle Spiro went 2 for 4 at the plate and Kerrie-Ann Adams scored twice and was also a strong defensive contributor. Tolland's Rebecca Fuller scattered five hits and fanned ten batters in taking the loss. Danielle Ostien's double and Samantha Morrow's single were the two hits allowed by Oliva. All pitcher's duels also feature superb defensive performances and this was no exception. Missy Pivonka, Aly Gromak, Jess Grabowicz, Chelsea Jasek and Danielle Ostien all made key catches or plays that kept South off the bases or prevented runs from scoring.
Enfield 13, Hebron 3. Enfield remained in first place in the West Division at 6-1 with the win over Hebron. Jess Browne, Megan Macsata and Karyn Palomba paced the offense. Jill Mangan had two hits for Hebron. Brittany Christensen tripled and Amanda Brown had a good game on defense.
Vernon 16, Bolton 0. Lauren Person and Michelle Reichert combined to pitch a no-hitter, striking out 11 in five innings. Person also had 2 hits, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Reichert had 3 hits and scored twice. Amanda Viens also scored 3 runs for the winners, who upped their record to 7-0. Jen Shea pitched well but took the loss for Bolton.
Somers 9, Suffield 7. Somers won at home, besting Suffield 9-7. Sarah Hills earned the victory with a save from Ashley Mazzoli. Katie Skypek tripled and scored and Brianne Nyquist scored twice. Rachel Clark had an RBI single and Sarabeth Thorne and Emily Jacobs had good defensive games. For Suffield, Mariko McKinnon led the way, scoring twice. Jeannette Burke and Deedee Presser each had two hits, with Presser also leading a good defensive effort for the visitors. Kate Zuraw did well pitching in relief.
Simsbury 16, East Windsor 1. Jess Savino pitched visiting Simsbury past East Windsor. Natasha Fahey (2 hits and a sacrifice fly) and Jocelyn Dennen did well at the plate. Julie Lech tripled and scored East's lone run. Meagan Nelson pitched well and also made a good defensive play at second base. Kerry Stoecker did well behind the plate, making two putouts in one inning.
Stafford 9, Ellington 4. Stafford won at Ellington as Marcie Boldi earned the decision. Amanda Litvinchyk had a good game at the plate and Britney Church led the defensive unit. Vanessa Russell led the Ellington hitters and Ashley Bergeron and Ashley Morgan played well on defense.

- Friday, July 20th
Stafford 7, East Windsor 2. (see photos)Stafford scored six times in the first inning and then held off visiting East Windsor to get the win under the lights at Olympic Field. Stacey Beebe had a great game behind the plate, stalling two East rallies by throwing runners out at second base. Corinna Boldi had an RBI-single and also played a fine defensive game. Britney Church knocked in a pair of runs for the victors. Erin Stoecker homered among three hits to lead the East Windsor batters. Julie Tetreault pitched a sood game, striking out eight, and Meagan Nelson added two hits.
Somers 16, South Windsor 6. In the nightcap of a U-14/U-16 doubleheader at Rye Street Park, the visiting Titans defeated South 16-6. Kristine Anderson collected three hits, including a 6th inning triple. Rachel Clark also had three hits with a double. Lindsey Cunningham had a nice RBI-single. The Somers defense was again led by Sarabeth Thorne at shortstop. For South Windsor, Amanda Boileau tripled and singled. Stacy Collins and Jess Oliva also had two hits apiece, with Oliva doubling in the first inning. Biz Lassman had a good game in the field for South. In the circle, Ashley Mazzoli pitched a complete game for the Titans, scattering eight hits, striking out four and walking one. Amanda Boileau took the loss.
Enfield 10, Ellington 4. Enfield picked up the win at Ellington as Kristy Farnan and Jess Browne each hit doubles. Annie Tarbox had 2 RBI for the winners. Ashley Gioia pitched well for Ellington. Christine Frank went 1 for 3 and Michelle Burinskas played solid defense.
Tolland 15, West Hartford 11. Rebecca Fuller (14K) and Lindsay DuBosar (4K) combined for the victory. Aly Gromak had two singles and 3 RBI, Jess Grabowicz went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and Kathy Shaw plated 2 runs with a triple and a single. Laura Konikowski and Larissa Jesanis each had two hits and an RBI. Mhairi-Kate McKeegan's perfect throw to Kathy Shaw at third for the putout to stop a run from scoring was a defensive highlight. Again fine defense was played by Danielle Ostien at first base and Aly Gromak in the outfield. West Hartford received 2 hits and 2 RBI from Theo Dworak. Julia Cohn, Michele Ribeiro, Sheri Brick and Jill Cetel each had basehits.
Vernon 9, Suffield 4. Mary Gordon (4K) pitched the win at home over Suffield, allowing two hits. Tawny Boulanger reached base three times for Vernon and Michelle Reichert tripled.
Simsbury 7, Bolton 0.Forfeit by Bolton due to insufficient players.
- Monday, July 23rd
East Windsor 13, Bolton 6. East Windsor traveled to Bolton and returned with a win behind pitcher Julie Tetreault's eight strikeouts. Julie Lech barely missed hitting for the cycle with a homer, triple and double. Rachael Holland added 2 hiits and 3 RBI. Megan Miller hit well for Bolton and Stephanie Maynard had a good game defensively.
Enfield 6, South Windsor 4. South threatened in the last inning but Enfield hung on to win a well played game by both teams. Enfield's Karyn Palomba excelled on both sides of the ball and Nicole Jones went 2 for 3 at the plate. Megan Macsata had a great game in the field. Jess Oliva kept South close with her ten-strikeout effort. Diana Gamache and Eve Belardinelli both went 2 for 3.
Vernon 23, Hebron 0. Vernon improved to 9-0 with a 23-0 derailment of the Hebron Express, pounding out three triples and a homerun. Lauren Person pitched a 5-inning no-hitter with 8Ks. She helped herself with three hits and three runs scored. Danielle Deschamps (5 RBI) hit a bases-loaded triple and Shannon Clancy went 4 for 4 with 4 RBI. Michelle Reichert poked a 3-run homer and Colleen McNamara had 2 hits and 2 runs scored.
Ellington 10, West Hartford 9. Ellington got back in the win column with a close victory over a determined West Hartford team. Amanda Soder, Christine Frank, Vanessa Russell and Ashley Gioia had 2 hits each for Ellington. Tara Heffernan, Alyssa Skewes and Tina Pagano each had one hit. A committee of Skewes, Heidi Hodgkins and Gioia handled the pitching. Abby Johnson (5K) pitched a good game for West Hartford. Julia Cohn, Sheri Brick and Jenny Lacus scored two runs apiece. Lacus, at first base, and catcher Michele Ribeiro both had excellant defensive games.
Stafford 13, Suffield 7. Stafford won at Suffield behind the bats of Danielle Lappen (3 RBI) and Amanda Syme (2 RBI). Jessi Zeigler made several key plays on defense to deny Suffield. Deedee Presser and Caitlin Woods led the Suffield hitters and Amy Defocie pitched well in relief.
Simsbury 7, Somers 1. Jess Savino pitched a 3-hitter, fanning 13. Kim Trimble doubled and singled and played good defense at first base. Jess Serafin scored two of the Simsbury runs. Sarah Hills pitched well for Somers, striking out four. Katie Skypek, Brianne Nyquist and Sarabeth Thorne got the Somers hits. Thorne scored the lone run in the seventh inning after reaching base on a walk.
- Wednesday, July 25th
Enfield 16, Suffield 7. (from 6/27) Enfield defeated visiting Suffield as Megan Macsata collected 4 RBI on a pair of triples. Annie Tarbox pitched well in relief for the winners. Danielle Dwyer also hit a triple. Kate Zuraw led the Suffield offense and played well defensively at first base. Amy Defocie pitched a good game and Marissa Packard had a great night in the field.
- Friday, July 27th
Vernon 1, East Windsor 0 (10 innings). Vernon and Lauren Person emerged as winners of this marathon pitching battle. Danielle Deschamps doubled in the only run of the game. Person struck out 24 batters in the complete game win. Cat Carter reached base three times and Jess Call made a great catch in the outfield. Julie Tetreault (13K) also pitched the complete game for East. Calla Stanley made two nice catches in the outfield and Jen Whitehead had three outfield putouts.
Simsbury 7, Stafford 0. (see photos) Simsbury won under the lights at Stafford's Olympic Field as Jess Savino fanned 16 and got the complete game victory. Kerry Gotowka did much of the offensive damage with a homerun and a double. Marcie Boldi and Jessi Zeigler combined to strike out eight in the loss. Britney Church had a good night defensively.
Tolland 6, Enfield 2. Rebecca Fuller (15K) pitched visiting Tolland past Enfield. She also went 2 for 3 at the plate. Larissa Jesanis (triple, single, 3 RBI), Megan Geadje (triple, single, RBI) and Samantha Morrow (RBI double) supplied the offense. Laura Konikowski made two great defensive plays at 2nd base and Jess Grabowicz threw out a runner attempting to steal. Annie Tarbox (13K) pitched well for Enfield in the loss. Stephanie Montville went 2 for 3 and Samantha Eck had an RBI.
South Windsor 20, Ellington 1. South won at home as Amanda Boileau pitched a two-hitter. Danielle Spiro went 2 for 4 and Stacy Collins doubled. Alyssa Skewes pitched well in the loss. Tina Pagano had a good defensive game and Kristen Wasielewski did well at the plate.
West Hartford 20, Hebron 5.

Tolland 10, Ellington 0. Rebecca Fuller was one out away from a no-hitter when Chris Frank stroked Ellington's lone hit. She ended with 17 Ks and had a double and single with 2 RBI at the plate. Megan Gaedje (1 for 2, RBI), Missy Pivonka (1 for 1, 2 runs), Laura Konikowski (1 for 1, 2 runs) and Samantha Morrow (1 for 2) were contributors on offense. Defensively, Danielle Ostien (1B) and Konikowski (2B) turned in solid performances. Ellington was led by Frank's single, Karyn Deptula's great catch in center field and catcher Tina Pagano's erasure of an attempted steal of third base.
Simsbury 8, West Hartford 2. Jess Savino (6 IP, 3H, 12K) and Jess Serafin combined for the win. Leah Seltzer went 2 for 3, Jocelyn Dennen 1 for 2 with a walk, and Sarah Osterhout 1 for 3 to lead the Simsbury hitters. Erica Stankoski took the loss for West Hartford, allowing only 6 hits. Julia Cohn tripled and singled and Theo Dworak played a good defensive game.
Somers 6, East Windsor 0. Somers won at home using a two-hit pitching performance from Ashley Mazzoli (6K,2BB) and a stingy defense led by Jen Brown (1B), catcher Emily Jacobs and Brianne Nyquist (3B). Nyquist stole a sure extra-base hit from East by snaring a ground shot down the 3rd base line and throwing the runner out at first. The Titans were able to put some runs on the board by taking advantage of some walks given up by East's Julie Tetreault, who also pitched a fine game, yielding only 4 hits and striking out 13. Kerry Stoecker anchored the defense and Hillary Lanning had a nice opposite field hit.
Vernon 18, Stafford 3. Lauren Person gave up one hit and struck out 12 batters in 5 innings to get the win at Vernon. Jess Call hit a grandslam homerun and knocked in 5 runs. Tawny Boulanger hit a triple and three singles.
Suffield 15, Bolton 6. Suffield won at home behind Deedee Presser's four hits. Jess Doane tallied two hits and 4 runs scored and Kristi Goulding had three hits for the winners. Erica Bargio tripled for Bolton and Jamie DiScipio scored twice. Heather Wright had a good game on defense.
South Windsor 7, Hebron 0. Forfeit by Hebron due to insufficient players.
- Wednesday, August 1st
Simsbury 7, Vernon 1. Visiting Simsbury handed Vernon its first loss of the season. Jess Savino allowed one run while striking out 14 and walking none. Leah Seltzer (3 for 4, 3 RBI) and Kathleen Heagney (3 runs scored) carried the offense. Lauren Person pitched a strong game and also hit a homerun for Vernon. Tawny Boulanger had two hits in three trips.
East Windsor 12, Suffield 11. Julie Tetreault(6K) and Ashley O'Brien combined for the win at Suffield. Julie Lech and Erin Stoecker knocked in four runs apiece and Calla Stanley led the defense in the outfield. Mary McKinnon pitched well for Suffield. Caitlin Woods (3 for 5, 2 runs), Amber Lacivita (2 for 4, 2 runs) and Deedee Presser (2 doubles, 3 RBI) accounted for much of the offense.
Enfield 15, West Hartford 6. Enfield traveled to West Hartford and came home with a 15-6 decision. Stephanie Montville pitched an excellant game and got ample support from Amanda Farnan (triple, 2 RBI) and Annie Tarbox (2 RBI). Heather Corrigan took the loss for West Hartford. Michele Ribeiro had two hits in three at-bats and Erica Stankoski had a good game on defense.
Somers 7, Stafford 5. Visiting Somers pushed accross six runs in the first inning and hung on to edge Stafford. Jen Brown hit two triples to lead the Titans with Brianne Nyquist and Lindsey Cunningham both doubled. Casey Pac headed the defense with a solid effort in left field. For Stafford, Lauren Gagnon scored twice, Jonielle Koehler and Tori Butler each singled and Danielle Lappen took advantage of some Titan(ic) mistakes to score a 4-bagger. Tori Butler and Dee Hansen were sharp on the defensive side. In the pitcher's circle, Sarah Hills pitched the complete game win, yielding just two hits, striking out 8 and walking nine. Stafford's Jessi Zeigler also pitched well, scattering six hit, walking 3 and striking out eight.
Tolland 45, Bolton 16. Visitors went 5 for 5 tonight as Tolland came out on top in this 3-hour marathon played under the light at Bolton's Herrick Park. Sam Morrow (2/4,HR,6RBI), Laura Filipek (3/3,4RBI), Laura Konikowski (2/2,2RBI), Chelsea Jasek (2/4,3RBI), Mallary Jasek (3/4,2RBI), Crystal Penton (2/3,2RBI), Lauren Philippona (2/3,2RBI) and Megan Gaedje (2/3) were the major contributors on offense. Defensively, excellant plays were made by Danielle Ostien, who stopped a hard shot at first base; Laura Konikowski, who made the game-ending tag of a runner at second base; Larissa Jesanis, who was very consistant at shortstop; Kathy Shaw, who threw a runner out at 2nd on a difficult play from third base; and Mhairi-Kate McKeegan, who made a great catch in center field. Bolton was led by Heather Wright (3 for 4), Kim Toledo (3 for 5), Stephanie Maynard (2/4,triple) and Erica Bargio (2/3,triple). Jen Shea and Shannon Bennett both hit doubles.
Ellington at Hebron postponed to Wednesday, August 8th.

Tolland 9, Hebron 2. Tolland won on the road behind Rebecca Fuller's 18-strikeout pitching effort. She also doubled and singled and knocked in two runs. Samantha Morrow added a double, an RBI and 3 runs scored. Megan Gaedje, Kathy Shaw and Mallary Jasek were also contributors on offense. Hebron got two hits apiece from Amanda Brown and Kara Pinto. Brittany Christensen had a good game defensively.
Simsbury 16, West Hartford 5. Jessie Serafin (5IP) and Jocelyn Dennen (2IP) combined on the win. Diane Rumbold, Amy Neureither and Kim Trimble all went 2 for 3 to lead the 14-hit offense. Jill Cetel (2 hits) and Theo Dworak paced West Hartford's hitters. Laura Scully played a great game behind the plate.
Vernon 8, South Windsor 1. Vernon beat visiting South Windsor as Michelle Reichert (9K) earned the complete game win. Cat Carter homered, singled and made a great catch in the outfield. Melissa DeBarge (3B) and catcher Amanda Viens denied the opponents with solid defensive play. Stacy Collins (homerun) and Danielle Spiro led the South offense. Amanda Boileau pitched well but took the loss.
Enfield 12, Suffield 4. Stephanie Montville (10K) earned the win for visiting Enfield. Amanda Michaud, Kate Dumolin and Samantha Eck carried the offense. Caitlin Woods homered for Suffield. Jeannette Burke and Amy Defocie did well sharing the pitching.
East Windsor 2, Stafford 1. East Windsor edged Stafford as Julie Tetreault (8K) and Marcie Boldi (8K) each pitched well enough to win the game. Jennifer Whitehead's triple in the sixth inning followed by Kerry Stoecker's single proved to be the difference. Tori Butler and Danielle Lappen had good games at the plate for Stafford.
Somers 5, Ellington 1. Ashley Mazzoli threw a 2-hitter for Somers, striking out 11 and walking none. Katie Skypek led the offense with two hits and two runs scored and the team played very well overall on defense. Alyssa Skewes and Kelly Sommariva pitched well in the loss. Kristen Wasielewski made her pitching debut for Ellington and did well in her first relief appearance. Amanda Soder and Ashley Gioia had the two Ellington hits.

Ellington 20, Hebron 10. (from 8/1) On a very warm night in Hebron, Ellington came away with a win behind solid pitching by Kelly Sommariva and Ashley Gioia. Karyn Deptula, Tara Heffernan, Amanda Soder and Gioia each had two hits. Robin Tripp scored four times. Their defensive highlight was a line drive caught by Ashley Bergeron followed by a good throw to first base to double up the runner. Amanda Brown had two hits for Hebron. Melissa Martin did well at catcher and Stephanie Brown turned in a nice relief appearance.
Somers 25, Bolton 6.
- Friday, August 10th
Enfield 16, South Windsor 0. Enfield went to South Windsor and came away with the win in an important game for both teams. Stephanie Montville went the distance for Enfield, striking out seven in the shutout. She also helped herself on offense with three hits in four at-bats. Megan Macsata (homerun) and Kristy Farnan also went 3 for 4. Elizabeth Harrison hit a double for South Windsor. Amanda Boileau pitched well for South and Danielle Spiro played solid defense at shortstop.
Vernon 9, Hebron 7. Vernon defeated visiting Hebron in a close game. Sherri Gandini accounted for much of Vernon's scoring with a grand slam homerun. Michelle Reichert pitched a complete game and also homered. Danielle Deschamps hit a triple. Shannon Clancy and Amanda Viens both played well at catcher. For Hebron, Jill Mangan pitched a good game and hit two singles on offense. Danielle Dupont (OF) and Brittany Christensen (C) had good games in the field.
East Windsor 15, Ellington 8. East Windsor won at home in a game shortened to 6 innings by darkness. Ashley O'Brien pitched the complete game win, striking out seven. Kerry Stoecker knocked in three runs with a triple and a double. Julie Lech also doubled for East. Vanessa Russell (SS) and Ashley Bergeron (RF) played well defensively for Ellington. Alyssa Skewes singled twice.
Suffield at Simsbury rescheduled to Wednesday, August 15th.

Stafford 4, Somers 3. (from 8/10) Visiting Stafford hung on to defeat Somers in a game that ended with a strikeout on a full count with the bases loaded. Danielle Lappen tripled for Stafford and Stacey Beebe doubled and also had an excellant game behind the plate. Michelle Syphers and Lauren Gagnon both had good games defensively. Ashley Mazzoli pitched very well for Somers but took the loss. Noreen Kelly singled and Sarah Hills scored twice.
- Wednesday, August 15th
Enfield 10, West Hartford 6. (from 8/13) Enfield ended their season with a win over visiting West Hartford as Annie Tarbox pitched a great game to get the decision. Megan Macsata went 3 for 4 with a triple and Karyn Palomba had an excellant game in the field. Julia Cohn led the West Hartford hitters. Heather Corrigan did well on defense and Jill Cetel played a great game overall.
Stafford 13, Ellington 4. (from 8/13) Stafford finished with a 9-6 record after defeating visiting Ellington. Victoria Butler's 3-run homer highlighted the offense. Danielle Lappen tripled and doubled. Amy Syphers and Amy Zimmerman both had hits and played well defensively. Christine Frank doubled, singled and scored a run. Michelle Burinskas singled and also made a nice catch in the outfield. Tara Heffernan singled and had a putout at home plate.
Vernon 19, Tolland 2. (from 8/13) Lauren Person struck out 13 in pitching the complete game win for Vernon. She also homered twice, one a grandslam, tripled and singled. Tawny Boulanger hit three singles and Melissa DeBarge reached base safely five times. Lindsay DuBosar pitched well but took the loss. Larissa Jesanis had a triple and 2 RBI. Kathy Shaw made some good catches in the outfield.
