2002 U-14 SEASON GAME SUMMARIES

Tuesday, June 18th
Ellington 3, Simsbury 1. Ellington opened the season with an exciting win at Simsbury behind the 17-strikeout pitching of Alyssa Skewes, who also singled and scored. Melanie Timura singled and scored and Jo Jo Harty scored a run on a walk and three stolen bases. Catcher Amy Hartman had a good game behind the plate. Leanne Golden, Lindsay Gondek and Elizabeth Maxwell each made crucial plays on defense. Tori Savino and Becca Raymond combined to strike out sixteen Ellington batters. Jocelyn Dennen played well at shortstop and scored the lone Simsbury run.
Enfield1 5, Vernon 4. The Fireballs rallied in the last inning to defeat Vernon 5-4. Kim Collins and Lauren Miles combined to pitch the win. Alyssa Cannella and Sue Scanlon got key hits in the bottom of the 7th inning to push across the winning runs. Vernon's battery of Mary Gordon and Amanda Viens both had good games in the loss.
Manchester 16, Somers 9. Manchester came from behind to beat Somers 16-9 behind the pitching of Ashley Bilodeau, Courtney Novak and Ann Rosenstreich. Jenny Bunce, Kara Peruccio and Caitlin Peruccio each had a pair of hits and scored two runs. A strong defensive effort was led by Amy Pearl, Kathryn Howroyd, MaryKate Panciera and Melinda Carlson. Jackie Shepard and Chelsie Merone scored two runs each for Somers and Hannah Murray had a good game on defense.
Suffield 7, Enfield2 0. Suffield won by forfeit.
Thursday, June 20th
Simsbury 7, South Windsor 1. Mandy Hyne and Jocelyn Dennen combined for 15 strikeouts as Simsbury evened their record with a 7-1 win over visiting South Windsor. Hyne also led Simsbury at the plate with 2 hits and 4 RBIs. Laura Patton added two key hits and scored two runs. Jackie O'Brien, with 12 strikeouts, and catcher Allie Sirrine turned in outstanding defensive performances for South Windsor.
Ellington 9, Manchester 4. Ellington opens with two wins on the road, beating Manchester 9-4. Amy Hartman led the hitters with a double and a single. Alyssa Skewes pitched the win, fanning 14. Tina Pagano hit two singles and Courtney Horvath and Jamie Blanchard both had hits. Leanne Golden and Margaret Deptula each had two infield assists. Melinda Carlson pitched well for Manchester, striking out nine opponents. Amy Pearl singled and Maica Umali, Shannon Walsh and Hannah Howroyd had good defensive games.
Vernon 17, Somers 13. Vernon bested Somers 17-13 as Danielle Baker earned the win in her pitching debut, giving up eight hits and striking out two in six innings. She also helped herself with three runs scored. Amanda Viens had a good game at the plate and Katie McKinnon made some excellant defensive plays at second base. Jackie Shepard tripled and singled for Somers and Mindy Oswell pitched well in relief. Michelle Milliken also had a good game both at the plate and on defense.
Tuesday, June 25th
Enfield1 16, Somers 1. The Fireballs defeated the visiting Titans by a score of 16-1 led by the defensive play of catcher Chelsea Aiken. Kyleen Klement and Alyssa Cannella both went 3 for 3 at the plate. Dawn Ezold and Tamara Roman had two hits each. For Somers, pitcher Mindy Oswell scored on a hit by Michelle Milliken, who also played well on defense. Catcher Kayla Bower did a good job behind the plate for Somers.
Manchester 21, Suffield 13. Manchester rallied to win their second game of the year in topping Suffield 21-13. Melinda Carlson was excellant in relief, not allowing any hits over three innings. Shannon Walsh had a hit and scored 4 runs, while Andrea Quintiliani was on base three times and scored a pair of runs. Defensively, Jenny Bunce, Amy Pearl and Caitlin Peruccio led Manchester. Suffield received a strong game from catcher Jen Silva, who threw out three baserunners and chipped in with a hit. Melanie Chapman reached base three times and scored twice. Jen Thresher reached base twice and scored a run. Kara Pellin led the defense.
Simsbury 17, Enfield2 1. Becca Raymond, with six strikeouts in 3 innings, combined with relievers Tori Savino and Caroline Kokulis to allow no hits as Simsbury defeated Enfield2 in 5 innings by a score of 17-1. Laura Patton smashed a homerun and Cassie Hodgson added three hits to lead the offense. Simsbury catchers Devan Gotowka and Gina Carchidi were outstanding on defense, throwing out four Enfield baserunners. Amy Angeloni stole home for the lone Blue Devils run. Amanda Hill pitched a good game for Enfield and Nicole Delano and Kari West had good games at the plate.
South Windsor 16, Vernon 11. South Windsor recorded its first victory of the season with a 16-11 decision at Vernon. Danielle Usiadek pitched the win, striking out ten, and helped herself at the plate with a triple. Amanda Wanat had two hits and scored three times while Kim Masi and Laura Greider also had multiple hits. Alyssa Hoyt and Desirae Hewitt played well for Vernon.
Thursday, June 27th
Ellington, 12, Suffield 2. The Ellington X-tremes won their home opener 12-2 over Suffield. Alyssa Skewes earned the victory, striking out nine batters in four innings. Mallory Householder pitched very well in relief and helped her cause with some alert baserunning. Catcher Tina Pagano had a great game behind the plate, notching a double play off a pop foul ball. Jamie Blanchard's triple and single and Lindsay Gondek's double highlighted the offense. The team as a whole played x-tremely well in the field. Kara Pellin pitched a good game for Suffield, aided by the defensive efforts of Caitlin McGunigle. Brynn Scozzari and Amylia O'Neill both hit singles to lead the offense.
Vernon 26, Enfield2 3. Vernon won at home as Rebecca Mattern pitched the complete game and also scored four runs. Kelly Cocco led the hitters, going 4 for 4, and also did an excellant job behind the plate. Dana Carpenter did a great job on the defensive end for the winners. The Enfield2 Blue Devils got a good pitching performance from Amanda Hill and fielding from Brittany Stetson.
Simsbury 22, Somers 6. Simsbury traveled to Somers and defeated the Titans 22-6 behind Tori Savino's 4-inning/11 strikeout pitching. Jocelyn Dennen added five strikeouts in relief and led the offense with three hits, including a homerun. Jill Asensio tripled and pitched the final inning in relief. Tori Savino, Allie Valyo and Gina Carchidi all had good nights at the plate with two hits apiece. Somers pitcher Mindy Oswell was outstanding defensively and also added a hit. Kayla Bower, Kacey Oswell and Kara McGuane also played well for the Titans.
South Windsor 7, Enfield1 6. South Windsor gained it's second win of the season with a close come from behind victory over the Fireballs by a score of 7-6. Kim Colla led the offense with a triple and 3 RBIs. Jenn Zocco and Erin Sullivan both made outstanding catches in the field. Lauren Miles pitched well for Enfield in taking a tough loss. Dawn Ezold and Kyleen Klement led the Fireballs hitters.
Friday, June 28th
Suffield at Enfield2 (EWS). Postponed due to rain.
Simsbury at Vernon. Rescheduled to Monday, July 15th.

Monday, July 1st
South Windsor 6, Manchester 4. South Windsor topped Manchester 6-4 behind a strong pitching performance from Jackie O'Brien. Allie Sirrine played a good game defensively behind the plate while Delanie Usiadek led the hitters. Jackie LeRoy led the Manchester offense. Heidi Smith and Ann Rosenstreich also turned in good performances.
Ellington 17, Enfield2 2. The X-Tremes downed the Blue Devils as Alyssa Skewes struck out eight in three innings. Mallory Householder struck out three in 2 innings of relief and also had 2 singles at the plate. Margaret Deptula led the hitters with a double and three singles. JoJo Harty, Leanne Golden, Jenna Savage and Shannon Close each had two hits. Beth Sullivan singled and scored a run. Barbara Kaplan led the Enfield2 defense and Christina Sheehan pitched well in relief. Dora Butler and Amanda Hill scored the Blue Devil runs on walks and good baserunning.
Somers 16, Suffield 6. Somers got their first win on the road, defeating Suffield 16-6. Winning pitcher Mindy Oswell singled and scored two runs to help herself. Jaclyn Shepard had two hits and also played a great defensive game. Michelle Milliken ripped a double and scored and Chelsie Merone had two hits and scored 3 runs for the Titans. Jen Thresher went 2 for 3 at the plate for Suffield and Jen Silva did a great job behind the plate. Alex Wilson played a good defensive game.
Vernon 16, Enfield1 6. (see photos)Vernon won at home as Mary Gordon struck out eight and walked one in pitching a complete game. Amanda Viens caught the entire game and scored twice. Katie McKinnon stole 3 bases and scored 3 runs. Regina Falkowski led the Fireballs with 2 hits and 2 runs scored. Kyleen Klement doubled and singled and catcher Dawn Ezold tripled.
Tuesday, July 2nd
South Windsor 18, Enfield2 2. South got its third win as Nicole Nixon and Danielle Usiadek combine to strike out eleven. Sara Cherepinsky and Erin Sullivan led a strong defensive team effort. Barbara Kaplan pitched a good game for the Blue Devils aided by a great catch by Dora Butler. Christina Sheehan also demonstrated outstanding versatility for Enfield2.
Manchester 25, Vernon 22. In a slugfest, Manchester outlasted Vernon 25-22. Melinda Carlson notched her third win while Kathryn Howroyd picked up the save in relief. Manchester was led by Maica Umali, who had three hits and scored two runs. Amy Pearl chipped in with two hits and scored a pair of runs while Megan Sullivan delivered a key hit and led the defense. Danielle Baker led the Vernon hitters with two hits and two runs scored. Kelly Cocco reached base three times and scored twice and Desirae Hewitt also played well for Vernon.
Ellington 9, Enfield1 7. (see photos)Ellington improved to 5-0 after extinguishing the Fireballs 9-7 at Brookside Park. Alyssa Skewes struck out eight and got the win. Leanne Golden, Amy Hartman and Tina Pagano all had base hits. JoJo Harty put a great 2-out bunt down the first base line. On defense, Mallory Householder made a nice diving stop at first base with the bases loaded. Margaret Deptula converted a key double play in the 7th inning that stifled an Enfield rally. Leanne Golden and Elizabeth Maxwell also had good defensive games and Tina Pagano turned in a solid performance behind the plate. Regina Falkowski led the Fireballs with a triple, single and some great baserunning. Sue Scanlon, Alyssa Cannella, Kim Collins and Kyleen Klement each hit singles. Kim Collins also pitched well in relief.
Saturday, July 6th
Simsbury 19, Suffield 11. (see photos) Simbury extended it's winning streak to four games with a come from behind victory over Suffield, 19-11, at Memorial Park. Jill Roop pitched 3 innings in middle relief to gain the win. The Simsbury defense then closed out the win, holding Suffield scoreless over the last 3 innings behind the pitching and strong defense of Jill Asensio along with key plays by Rachel Seidner and Ashley Drake. Laura Patton also excelled on defense at first base and led the Simsbury offense with 3 hits, including two triples. Elizabeth Breen and Kara Pellin pitched well for Suffield in the loss. Caitlin McGunigle starred at the plate with a double and two runs scored.
Monday, July 8th
Somers 19, Manchester 18. (from June 28th) The Titans beat visiting Manchester 19-18 with an 8-run rally in the bottom of the 7th inning. Michelle Milliken's bases-loaded triple tied the game. Chelsie Merone led off the inning with a walk and ended the inning with a game winning single. Kacey Oswell and Jaclyn Shepard also had key hits in the inning. Mindy Oswell pitched the complete game for Somers. Kara Peruccio had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs for Manchester. Andrea Quintiliani reached base 4 times and scored twice. Heidi Smith had 2 hits and 3 RBI. Melinda Carlson and Courtney Novak both pitched well in the loss.
Enfield1 20, Enfield2 2. (from July 20th) The Fireballs downed the Blue Devils 20-2 in 5 innings. Kim Collins pitched well to get the win, supported by the defense of Sue Scanlon at second base. Kyleen Klement's triple was the big hit for Enfield1. Nicole Delano, Barbara Kaplan and Amy Angeloni had good games for Enfield2.
Tuesday, July 9th
South Windsor at Manchester (postponed due to rain/no reschedule date), Somers at Simsbury (MP)(rescheduled to July 10th), Vernon at Suffield (rescheduled to July 16th).
Wednesday, July 10th
Simsbury 22, Somers 12. (from July 9th) Simsbury defeated visiting Somers 22-12 behind strong pitching (14 strikeouts) and outstanding offense (22 hits). Mandy Hyne allowed one hit and struck out four in 3 innings to gain the win and Jocelyn Dennen closed it out with eight strikeouts in 3 innings of no-hit pitching for the winners. Cassie Hodgson had three hits, including a triple, and Becca Raymond contributed 4 RBI at the plate for Simsbury. The Somers Titans were led on offense by Kacey Oswell and on defense by pitcher Mindy Oswell and catcher Monica Palmer.
Thursday, July 11th
Ellington 10, Suffield 7. The X-Tremes crossed the river to Suffield and returned with their sixth win. Alyssa Skewes (14K), Mallory Householder (2K) and Lindsay Gondek (3K) combined for the win. Gondek also had a 2-out bases-loaded double in the top of the 7th inning. Amy Hartman hit a 2-RBI triple the previous inning. Jamie Blanchard, Mallory Householder, Jenna Savage, Beth Sullivan and Shannon Close all had hits for Ellington. Kalleigh Peterson's 2-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth was Suffield's big hit. Catcher Jen Silva cut down two runs with great defensive plays and Sam Bieleski made a nice shoestring catch in left field.
Manchester at Vernon Rescheduled to July 22nd.
Sunday, July 14th
Enfield1 30, Enfield2 8. The Fireballs beat the Blue Devils 30-8 under the lights at A.D.Higgins School. Kim Collins pitched a good game for Enfield1. Catcher Kelsey Flanagan picked off three baserunners and also came through for the team at the plate. Alyssa Cannella was 4 for 5 with two doubles. Amanda Farnan also hit well for the Fireballs. Dora Butler pitched well for the Blue Devils. Nicole Serafin and Erica Pyznar also had good games for Enfield2.

Simsbury 7, Vernon 0.(forfeit)(from June 28th).
Tuesday, July 16th
South Windsor 22, Enfield2 2. (see photos) South won at home as Jordan Barile and Delanie Usiadek combined on a one-hitter. Amanda Hill pitched well for the Blue Devils. Valerie Longhi had a good game behind the plate and Crystal Haynes made some nice plays in the field.
Vernon 18, Suffield 16. (from July 9th) Danielle Baker pitched a complete game and played well defensively as Vernon won at Suffield. Catcher Melissa Rebai hit a 2-run homer and had a good game behind the plate. Stephanie Lee also hit well for Vernon. Amylia O'Neill went 2 for 3 for Suffield. Kara Pellin and Elizabeth Breen both pitched well in the loss.
Simsbury 17, Manchester 1. Simsbury defeated visiting Manchester 17-1 in 5 innings to extend their winning streak to six games. Mandy Hyne struck out 6 over 4 innings and Tori Savino pitched the fifth to close it out. Laura Patton had three hits and Mandy Hyne and Jocelyn Dennen each doubled, singled and scored two runs to lead the Simsbury offense. Kara Peruccio and Kathryn Howroyd led Manchester at the plate, while Jackie LeRoy and Megan Sullivan excelled on defense.
Enfield1 8, Ellington 4. The Fireballs handed Ellington their first loss as Kim Collins earned the win, striking out five.Sue Scanlon, Dawn Ezold, Kyleen Klement and Alyssa Cannella led a strong defensive effort. Right fielder Lauren Miles made a crucial play to stop a possible Ellington rally. Cannella, Ezold, Scanlon and Regina Falkowski all had key RBIs. Alyssa Skewes (12K) took the loss for the X-Tremes. Tina Pagano, Lindsay Gondek (double), Leanne Golden, Shannon Close and Courtney Horvath all had hits. Mallory Householder made two big defensive plays at first base in the 6th inning and Tina Pagano gave her usual solid performance behind the plate for Ellington.
Wednesday, July 17th
Ellington 2, South Windsor 1. (from June 28th) The X-Tremes regained sole possession of first place with a 2-1 win over South Windsor. Alyssa Skewes struck out 18 to get the 'W'. Jamie Blanchard's 2-out, 2-run bases loaded double in the bottom of the sixth inning decided the game. JoJo Harty, Tina Pagano and Shannon Close all had singles. Leanne Golden and Elizabeth Maxwell teamed for two key infield defensive plays for Ellington. Danielle Usiadek pitched a great game for South, striking out twelve. Catcher Allie Sirrine threw out two baserunners attempting steals. Jackie O'Brien (2 singles), Kim Colla (double), Usiadek (single) and Sirrine (single) accounted for South Windsor's offense.
Thursday, July 18th
Simsbury 31, Enfield2 11. Becca Raymond allowed no hits and struck out four over 3 innings to gain the win as Simsbury defeated visiting Enfield2 by a score of 32-11. Devan Gotowka and Gina Carchidi pitched well in relief. The Simsbury offense was led by Jocelyn Dennen and Cassie Hodgson with 3 hits each and Tori Savino with five runs scored. Brianna Lempitsky and Nicole Serafin stood out for the Blue Devils at the plate, with Dora Butler also playing a good game.
Enfield1 18, Suffield 8. The Fireballs defeated Suffield 18-8 as Lauren Miles pitched the win. Kelsey Flanagan (triple) and Alyssa Cannella both went 3 for 3 at the plate. Regina Falkowski and Sue Scanlon also hit triples. Suffield showed heads-up baserunning as a team. Katelyn Pellin, Caitlin McGunigle and Amylia O'Neill came up big for the Suffield defense.

Enfield2 at Enfield1 (ADH)(7:30PM)(Rescheduled to July 8th at EWS).
Monday, July 22nd
Manchester 20, Vernon 17. (from July 11th) In a game shortened to five innings due to darkness, Manchester outlasted Vernon 20-17 to get back to the .500 mark. The winners were paced by the clutch hitting of Maica Umali, Andrea Quintiliani and Shannon Walsh. Jenny Bunce led the defense by throwing out two runners stealing. Vernon was paced by Melissa Rebai, who hit four homeruns in five at-bats. Rachel Laster chipped in with three hits and played solid defense.
Tuesday, July 23rd
Suffield at Vernon ppd. due to rain, Manchester at Enfield1 (EWS)(rescheduled to August 1st), Simsbury at Ellington (rescheduled to July 31st), Somers at South Windsor (rescheduled to July 29th).
Thursday, July 25th
Somers 16, Vernon 15. The Somers Titans won a close battle against Vernon 16-15 with an 8-run rally in the sixth inning. The Titans ended the game with a bases-loaded double play started by Kayla Bower. Monica Palmer led the offense with 4 hits followed by Chelsie Merone and Melissa Vamvilis each with 3 hits. Mindy Oswell pitched the complete game for the win. Hannah Koch pitched well for Vernon. Lisa Riendeau scored five runs and Alyssa Hoyt played well in the loss.
Enfield1 18, Suffield 1. The Fireballs downed visiting Suffield by a score of 18-1. Hillary Ridel had a big hit for the winners and Ashley Michaud also played well. For Suffield, Sam Cieri, Jen Thresher and Amylia O'Neill had good games.
Simsbury at South Windsor. Postponed ; to be rescheduled.
Ellington at Manchester. Rescheduled to July 28th.
Friday, July 26th
Somers 5, Ellington 4. Somers beat visiting Ellington 5-4 as Sarah Hills pitched a complete game win. Melissa Vamvilis led the hitters with three singles. Mindy Oswell's RBI double tied the game. Kayla Bower, Monica Palmer and Chelsie Merone each hit singles. Mallory Householder pitched well but took the loss, striking out ten. Amy Hartman tripled and doubled for Ellington and catcher Tina Pagano had two singles. Margaret Deptula, Jamie Blanchard and Lindsay Gondek each hit singles. Leanne Golden turned a double play for the X-Tremes.
Manchester 21, Enfield2 6. Manchester downed the Enfield2 Blue Devils 21-6 as Kathryn Howroyd, Courtney Novak and Kara Peruccio combined on a four-hitter. Heidi Smith (single, double & triple), Ashley Bilodeau, Maica Umali and Howroyd all had 3 hits while combining for 10 runs. Jackie LeRoy and Ann Rosenstreich led a strong defensive effort. The Blue Devils were led by Barbara Kaplan and Kari West who each reached base 3 times and scored twice. Dora Butler had a double and also reached base three times.
Enfield1 14, Simsbury 5. The Fireballs won their sixth straight, defeating Simsbury 14-5. Lauren Miles pitched the win and also had a double and single at the plate. Alyssa Cannella and Regina Falkowski each hit a homerun and a triple for Enfield1. Pitcher Sheila Capetta and Megan Neureither both had outstanding games for Simsbury.
South Windsor 23, Suffield 14. South Windsor beat Suffield 23-14 as Jackie O'Brien pitched a great game with 10 strikeouts. Jordan Barile had four hits as did Jen Zocco to lead the South Windsor offense. Pitching well for Suffield was Jenn Thresher and Tiffany Doane while Melanie Chapman turned in a solid defensive performance.
Sunday, July 28th
Ellington 20, Manchester 0 (5 innings). (from July 25th) Alyssa Skewes (4 IP/9K) pitched Ellington over Manchester with catcher Tina Pagano (3 hits) being her main supporter. Jen Savage had two hits and Amy Hartman connected for a double. Courtney Horvath, Elizabeth Sullivan and Melanie Timura also had hits for the X-Tremes. Ashley Bilodeau pitched well for Manchester, striking out five. Amy Pearl managed the lone single.
Monday, July 29th
Somers 17, South Windsor 16. (from July 23rd) Somers won their third consecutive 1-run decision, 17-16 over South Windsor. Jaclyn Shepard had three hits and pitched the 7th inning to preserve the win for starter Mindy Oswell, who had two hits. Kayla Bower had a great defensive game behind the plate. Danielle Usiadek had three hits to lead the South offense. Delanie Usiadek and Amanda Wanat both played good games defensively.
Tuesday, July 30th
Manchester 7, Simsbury 0. Forfeited by Simsbury.
Enfield1 19, Suffield 3. The Fireballs defeated Suffield 19-3. Kim Collins pitched the win and catcher Chelsea Aiken had a good game behind the plate. Ashley Michaud played well and Amanda Farnan had the game winning hit. Katelyn Pellin played outstanding center field for Suffield. Liz Breen and Kara Pellin also performed well in the loss.
Ellington 2, Vernon 0. Ellington won at Vernon with Alyssa Skewes pitching the shutout, striking out thirteen. Amy Hartman had a single and an RBI double. Margaret Deptula singled in the other X-Tremes run. Tina Pagano had a hit and also played a great game behind the plate. Jena Savage made an outstanding catch in left field. Mary Gordon struck out twelve and took the loss for Vernon. Hannah Koch and Alyssa Hoyt each hit a single.
Somers 33, Enfield2 0. Jaclyn Shepard pitched the shutout for Somers and also had 3 hits at the plate. Crista Maggio (4 singles), Monica Palmer (2 singles and a triple), Sarah Hills (double and single) and Mindy Oswell (triple) provided much of the Titans' offense. Christina Sheehan did a great job catching for the Blue Devils. Amanda Hill pitched well and Dora Butler had a good game on defense.
Wednesday, July 31st
South Windsor 7, Vernon 0. South Windsor blanked Vernon as Danielle Usiadek recorded the first no-hitter of the summer in the U-14 league, striking out twelve batters. She also helped herself at the plate, hitting a double and a single, while her sister Delanie also had two hits. Jackie King homered and Amanda Wanat contributed with a double. King also made two nice catches in center field and Lauren Grieder also made a nice catch. Mary Gordon pitched well for Vernon, striking out 15 batters. Kelly Cocco played well defensively and Amanda Viens was solid behind the plate.
Somers 27, Enfield2 13. The Titans won at Enfield with Jaclyn Shepard getting the win in relief of Mindy Oswell. Monica Palmer singled, doubled and tripled to lead the Somers hitters. Shepard and Kacey Oswell each had two hits and Kayla Bower, Mindy Oswell and Kara McGuane all hit safely. Emily Leech had three hits for the Enfield Blue Devils. Ellington 12, Vernon 2. (from July 18th) The X-Tremes wrapped up the U-14 season championship with a 12-2 win at home over Vernon. Alyssa Skewes struck out 12 in 6 innings and Mallory Householder fanned three in relief in the 7th inning. Margaret Deptula hit a triple and a single. Amy Hartman, Jamie Blanchard and Skewes all had two singles for Ellington. Jena Savage and Leanne Golden both had a hit. Golden also had 2 putouts and 2 assists at second base. Catcher Tina Pagano threw out a baseruner attemping a steal. Eliza Paterson and Alyssa Hoyt hit singles for Vernon. Kelly Cocco had a great game on defense.
Enfield1 10, Manchester 2. (from July 23rd) The Enfield Fireballs defeated Manchester led by Regina Falkowski, Dawn Ezold, Amanda Farnan and Kelsey Flanagan with two hits apiece. Hillary Ridel and Tamara Roman also played aggressively on offense. Andrea Quintiliani led the Manchester hitters. Ashley Bilodeau pitched well and catcher Heidi Smith played strong defense.
Somers 7, South Windsor 6. (from July 19th) The Titans squeezed by South Windsor as Sarah Hills struck out eight in the complete game win. She also doubled at the plate. Kara McGuane and Michelle Milliken each hit singles for Somers and Mindy Oswell had a good game defensively behind the plate. For South Windsor, Danielle Usiadek allowed only two hits in relief. Sara Cherepinsky tripled and Kim Colla hit a single.
