Amy Quattropani, who has established herself as a premier catcher, put the tag on Jessica Carson, who made a great attempt to score after starting a Suffield two-out rally. Suffield left the field with heads held high and two runners left on base. Suffield pitcher Brittany Sutton was brilliant in defeat, striking out eight, allowing five hits and walking only one batter. Equally impressive was East Hartford pitcher Heather Trinks, who allowed only three hits and worked out of several jams caused by walks. When needed, Heather was able to get six strikeouts to work out of trouble.

East Hartford 1, West Hartford 0 (8 innings). (from 8/2) In a classic defensive battle, the East Hartford Banshees squeeked by a stout West Hartford team under the twilight skies at McAuliffe Park in East Hartford. The game was filled with defensive gems. West Hartford centerfielder Laura Mainelli threw out the Banshees' speed demon Marchary Davis at the plate to end the 2nd inning. It would only be known as the game went on how big a play Laura had made. East Hartford pitcher Katie Coiteux, pitching the best game of her young career, was denied the RBI on the throwout. Alicia Lambert, as she has been all season, was stingy with the hits. She allowed EH only four hits and retired 10 consecutive batters at one stretch from the third to the sixth innings. Alicia struck out ten EH batters but was ultimately undone by 6 walks and great pressure on the basepaths by EH players. EH used the bunt and the steal to great advantage. Zoe Mendal had two effective bunts for WH but the EH defense would bend but not break. The EH defense was led by premier catcher Amy Quattropani, who was involved in starting two double plays as well as throwing out two WH baserunners. EH left fielder Lisa Donato made a huge play in the sixth inning by backing up an overthrown pickoff attempt at third base with the bases loaded. The lone run was finally plated in the bottom of the eighth inning when with one out, Jenna Alluson drew a walk. She promptly stole second base, setting up the lightning-quick aforementioned Maschary Davis to bunt and create havoc on the basepaths. Jenna never hesitated and was on third base with the bunt and, WH feeling the pressure of the speeding Davis, overthrew first base and Allison scored. Each team stranded seven runners on the bases. Katie Coiteux was also stingy with the hits, allowing only four and walking three. East and West have played three times and the total margin of difference has been two runs in those three games. Great softball !!
