The tournament final featured the two regular season division champions squaring off in what turned out to be an exciting seesaw battle. It also saw perhaps the best pitching matchup of the tournament with Suffield's Angie Moskwa, pitching in her fourth game of the day, pitted again South Windsor's Allyson Fournier.
South Windsor got off to a strong start in the bottom of the 1st inning when Michelle Scanlon, who finished with three hits, Fournier and Anna Cerra all singled. Two strikeouts and a caught stealing limited the damage to one run. Suffield answered in their next atbat as Moskwa, Maggie Reeves and Gina DiPrato singled. South shortstop Stephanie Rahm then singlehandedly squashed a potentially big inning by forcing a runner at second while on the ground, getting up and gunning down another runner at the plate. Only Reeves managed to score and the game was knotted 1-1. South made it 2-1 in the home half of the 2nd when Jenna Borrmann doubled home Sami Sutay, who had singled. The top of the 3rd saw Suffield pull even again, as Emma Kubetin and Samantha Guzzi singled. Kubetin took third base on a passed ball and scored on a fine 2-3 sacrifice by Kacey Gifford.
South Windsor took a two run lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning as Julie Landino walked and Erin O'Brien singled. Both were driven home by Michelle Scanlon, who was then thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple. The top of the 4th saw Suffield tie the score again as Kayla Nadeau singled, Sarah Dallaire walked and Emma Kubetin singled to load the bases. Nadeau scored on a groundout by Guzzi and Dallaire came home on a single by Gifford, her second RBI of the game.
Suffield went ahead in the top of the 5th inning on consecutive singles by Reeves, DiPrato and Nadeau. South Windsor countered in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game once more when Nicole Sylvester, who led off with a walk, came around to score. Suffield again got consecutive hits by Reeves, DiPrato and Nadeau to go ahead 6-5 in their half of the 7th inning. South mounted a comeback in the home half of the last inning which fell just short. Anna Cerra led off with a single to centerfield, but Moskwa, facing the heart of South's order, induced a popup and two groundouts to seal the victory, leaving the tieing run at second base.
Excellant defense was shown by both teams, but special mention must be made of Suffield's Taryn Scozzari and South's East Division MVP Tori Thomson, two catchers who caught all four games on Sunday.
