Monday, June 18th
Vernon 7, South Windsor 1. Vernon defeated South Windsor 7-1 in the teams' season opener. Erin Selavka went the distance for Vernon, giving up two hits and four walks while striking out eight. Brianna Levick doubled twice in the victory and Kristin Messier and Emily Jablonecki both chipped in two hits. South Windsor's Kristina Wanat performed very well against the seasoned Vernon team. Although she surrendered 10 hits, she struck out six and did not walk a batter. Candace Clark played well on both offense and defense and Dawn Citino's hustle and desire stood out for South Windsor.
East Hartford 16, Manchester White 0. East Hartford pitcher Heather Trinks pitched a four-inning no-hitter, facing the minimum twelve batters with a walk followed by a double play. Abby Rodriguez hit a first inning double to drive in two runs and East Hartford didn't look back. Jenna Allison and Brittany Brashier, both back after a year's layoff, had two hits each for the home team. Manchester catcher Gaby Dube played tough, showing a strong arm against relentless baserunning by the Banshees. White's relief pitcher, Trixie Umali, showed a competitive fastball and will be a force to be reckoned with this season.
Manchester Red 8, Glastonbury 0. Danielle Leone threw a no-hitter, striking out 18, to get the Manchester Red season started. Manchester held a slim 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning, and then put up seven runs to blow the game open. The offense was led by Anna Piggott, who went 2 for 3, with 2 RBIs and two runs scored. Jordin Purcell-Riess went 2 for 3 with a triple and 3 RBIs.
Suffield 3, Simsbury 2. Suffield opened the season with a 3-2 win over visiting division rival Simsbury. Pink broke open a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Julie Muscarella reached on an error to start the inning and Michelle Niejadlik tripled her in for the first run. Emily Droney then followed with an RBI double. Sam Cieri scored in the next inning on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Colleen Moroney. Simsbury rallied in the 7th inning, scoring two runs and getting the tieing run to second base, but Angie Moskwa ended the rally by collecting her seventh strikeout to end the game. Moskwa was outstanding, going the distance and allowing only four hits.
Canton at Granby - rescheduled to Friday, June 29th.
Wednesday, June 20th
Enfield Fireballs 4, Enfield Falcons 3. The Enfield Fireballs nipped the Enfield Falcons 4-3. Sarah Plizska led the Fireballs with two hits and three RBIs. Megan Chipman threw out three Falcon baserunners attempting to steal and Amanda Meunier played a strong centerfield with several nice plays, including a double play. Pitcher Courtney Cannella had 8 strikeouts and also drove in one of the Fireball runs. Nicole Delano and Lauren Little each reached base twice for the Falcons. Pitcher Lindsey DeFord recorded three strikeouts and had a double on offense.
Manchester White 12, Manchester Red 7. Manchester White slugged their way back to the .500 mark with a win over friendly rivals Manchester Red. Kelly Gentilcore earned the win for White, going the distance in the circle, and helping her cause by going 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Yomarie Rodriguez helped keep Red at bay by playing awesome defense in centerfield, and went 3-3 at the plate, scoring 3 runs. Allie Vitkus added to the offense with 2 RBI and a run scored. Starring for Red were Melanie Berman, with two outfield hits and a run scored, and Amanda Landry, with a beautiful sacrifice fly to center to tie the game. Arial Diaz smashed a two-run homerun in the sixth to lead a 3-run Red rally, keeping the team in the game until the final out.
Vernon 6, Glastonbury 2. At Addison Park in Glastonbury, Vernon prevailed over Glastonbury 6-2. Vernon batters scattered 10 hits, led by Mary Falkowski, Lauren Morency and Jocelyn White with two hits each. Erin Selvka went the distance, giving up six hits, striking out eight and walking two. Nicole Deskus and Hailey Hoge pitched well against a pesky Vernon lineup. Lindsay Rader chipped in with two singles and Jessie Smith walked twice and scored both Glastonbury runs.
Granby 7, West Hartford 1. Granby was led by the pitching of Chrissy Cooper, who gave up only two hits while striking out ten, and also contributed offensively with a double. The Granby team provided solid defense and aggressive baserunning. West Hartford was led by the 6-hit, 5-strikeout pitching of Mary Provenchia and strong catching defense of Jenna Allen and Catherine Montagino.
Suffield 4, Windsor 0. Visiting Pink downed Windsor 4-0 in a very well played game by both teams. Lauren Mercik got the shutout win, going 7 innings, allowing only 4 hits and striking out six. Michelle Niejadlik led the Pink offense, going 2-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI and Taylor Bartini went 3-3 with 3 runs scored. Windsor's three pitchers, Nina Varney, Jen Lattal and Melissa Nolan, all pitched well and combined for 4 strikeouts and seven hits allowed.
East Hartford 2, South Windsor 1.

Sunday, June 24th
Vernon 9, East Hartford 4. (from 6/25) In a rare Sunday night match-up, Vernon defeated East Hartford 9-4. Vernon was led by an outstanding pitching performance from Dana Carpenter. She scattered seven hits, with 9 strikeouts and only one walk. Jessica Philbrick led the offense with three hits, including two doubles. Elaina Donofrio chipped in with three hits and Kelly Falkowski had three stolen bases. East Hartford received offensive support from Jenna Allison (2 hits) and Brittany Brashier (single, triple). Rachel Dakin had a strong outing pitching for the first time against the Vernon line-up.
Monday, June 25th
Ellington 11, Enfield Fireballs 3. Ellington opened its season with an 11-3 win over the Enfield Fireballs. Both teams traded runs for five innings for a 4-2 Ellington lead. Enfield pitching and the defense of catcher Megan Chipman and shortstop Sarah Pliszka kept Ellington in check until the top of the 6th inning, when their offense exploded for seven runs, capped by a grand slam by Taylor Brown. A stingy Ellington defense, highlighted by a nice DP by Jen Spartz at 2B, kept the Fireballs from gaining any momentum. The pitching duo of Courtney Horvath and Morgan McPartland combined for 15 Ks while giving up just four hits.
Somers 9, East Windsor 4. In the season opener for both teams, Somers defeated East Windsor 9-4. Kacey Oswell went 4 for 5 at the plate while throwing a 10-strikeout complete game for Somers. Monica Palmer went 5 for 5, including a triple, and drove in two runs. Kara McGuane was 3 for 5 including a homerun. Shelby LaDue also had a triple and drove in two runs. For East Windsor, Jillian Cote was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Ginger Starvish also played well for East Windsor.
Manchester Red 14, South Windsor 0. Melanie Berman scattered 4 hits and struck out 8 in leading Manchester Red to a victory over South Windsor. Ariel Diaz was strong at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a 2-run homerun. Jen Aronne was solid at the plate, going 3-4. South Windsor was led on offense by Marianne Specker, who was 2 for 3. Candace Clark played well defensively for South as did Ashley Tremonte.
Suffield 3, Canton 2. Pink downed Canton 3-2 to make it three straight wins to open the season. Canton's Monique Gauthier kept the Pink offense off balance all night, scattering 7 hits and striking out two. Elise Minichiello played terrific centerfield for Canton and Jessie Schroeder was tremendous at the plate, going 2-3 and knocking in both Canton runs. Pink pitcher Angie Moskwa had her second strong outing of the year, going 7 innings, striking out eleven and allowing only 5 hits. Michelle Niejadlik was again outstanding in the field and at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI. Whitney Mackay got off to a good start in her first game for Pink, driving in the winning run in the top of the 6th inning.
Granby 13, Windsor 3. Granby's Amy Rapuano pitched an outstanding game, allowing only four hits. She was helped once again by Granby's aggressive baserunning and solid defense, including some clutch plays from shortstop Stacy Brunelle and Stephanie Hebert in the field. Windsor's Jen Lattal and Melissa Nolan were the leaders on offense, both hitting doubles.
Simsbury 10, West Hartford 0. Simsbury shutout West Hartford 10-0. Lily Hannigan had two hits for West Hartford and Jenna Allen had a hit and made a terrific defensive catch in left field.
Manchester White 6, Glastonbury 3.

Wednesday, June 27th
East Windsor 7, Enfield Fireballs 4. East Windsor defeated the Enfield Fireballs with Jessica Szymanski collecting three hits and Kelsey Mocadlo homering. Cara Angeloni tripled and had two RBI for the Fireballs. Jenn Serafin played well defensively.
Enfield Falcons 7, Somers 6. The visiting Falcons downed Somers 7-6. Lauren Little pitched four innings, keeping the hits in the infield. Lindsey DeFord pitched the final three innings and hit a long triple that tied the game. Jen Arnone caught all 7 innings in the heat and humidity and laid down a bunt to load the bases. JoJo Meunier pitched the first five innings for Somers, striking out eight. Kacey Oswell worked the final two frames, fanning six Falcons. Sarah Schulz led the hitters with two singles.
Vernon 3, Manchester White 1. Vernon and Manchester White added another page to their friendly rivalry with Vernon coming out on top 3-1. Erin Selavka got the start for Vernon, striking out two and giving up two hits and no walks. Dana Carpenter pitched two innings of no-hit relief. Jessica Philbrick tripled and scored in the first. Vernon capitalized on a Manchester error in the 5th when Philbrick went from first base to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on a wild pitch. Kristin Messier (catcher) and Lauren Morency (outfield) were solid defensively for Vernon. Kelly Gentilcore went the distance for White, giving up Philbrick's leadoff triple, but keeping Vernon hitless the rest of the way, striking out six and walking three. Yomarie Rodriguez doubled and scored in the first and Michelle Graboski chipped in with a base hit.
Granby 6, Simsbury 1. At a sticky Memorial Park in Simsbury, visiting Granby emerged with a 6-1 win. Katie Kelleher and Amy Rapuano combined to limit Simsbury to just five hits. Stephanie Hebert was 3 for 3 with a double and Hanna Lindeyer went 2 for 3, driving in three runs. Again, Granby's defense made play after play. Simsbury was led by the pitching of Carly Williams and Jess Rocha. A special mention goes to both the Granby catcher, Carolyn Rau, and her Simsbury counterpart, Emily Fazzano, who both caught complete games in the oppressive heat and humidity.
Suffield 8, West Hartford 1. Suffield defeated West Hartford behind a pitching gem from Angela Moskwa. Moskwa was in total control and took a perfect game into the bottom of the 7th inning. After fouling off four consecutive pitches, West's Alyssa Oddo ended the perfect game with a leadoff walk. One out later, Jenna Allen ended the no-hit bid with a double to left field. Moskwa finished the game with a one-hitter, allowing just one run and striking out six. Julie Muscarella and Taylor Bartini led the Pink offense, each collecting two hits and scoring a combined three runs. Kalleigh Peterson made an outstanding running catch in the 6th inning to keep the perfect game going. Mary Provencher played a solid game for West Hartford.
Glastonbury 12, South Windsor 7. Glastonbury outlasted a tough-hitting South Windsor team for a 12-7 win and their first win of the season. South Windsor had an early lead but the winners erupted for a 9-run third inning. The Glastonbury offense was led by Amanda Bogue's third inning grand slam. Katie Uricchio and Amanda Longley both had three hits apiece, while Rachel Howe added a double. Longley also pitched the last five innings in relief, finishing with six strikeouts, two walks and allowing only one run against a tough South Windsor lineup. South's hitting attack was led by Colleen Clark, who went 2-2 with two runs scored. Katie Holik caught the entire game while Susan Orsini provided some great plays defensively.
Canton 7, Windsor 0. Canton shutout Windsor 7-0 with Monigue Gauthier collecting 10 strikeouts in the 7-inning game. She also went 4 for 4 at the plate with a double, RBI and a run scored. Elise Minichiello had a bunt, double, 2 RBIs, a run scored and two stolen bases. Jessie Schroeder singled and scored and drove in a pair of runs. Rose Minichiello and Nicole Batan each scored for Canton. For Windsor, Jessica Bilotta doubled in the 2nd inning and Jen Lattal came on in relief in the 4th and struck out seven.
East Hartford 12, Manchester Red 5.
Friday, June 29th
East Windsor 5, Ellington 1. East Windsor downed Ellington 5-1 as Jillian Cote and Jessica Szymanski each had two hits. Amanda Spencer anchored the defense. Jen Spartz led Ellington's hitters with two singles. Emily Savino had a double and Ashleigh Williams reached base twice.
Windsor 6, West Hartford 5. Windsor held on to defeat West Hartford 6-5 in a well-played game. West Hartford battled back to within one run with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the 7th inning before the Windsor defense and strong pitching performance by Nina Varney put an end to the rally for the win. Varney had a 12-strikeout, complete game night backed by a strong defensive game from Cristina Flynn. Erin McVeigh had a timely double in the bottom of the sixth inning for Windsor's offensive player. For West Hartford, Catherine Montagino had a good game on both offense and defense and Lily Hannigan knocked in three runs.
Canton 16, Granby 0. (from 6/18) Canton blanked Granby as Monique Gauthier pitched a complete game with ten strikeouts and also started a 1-3-2 double play to end a Granby scoring threat. She helped herself by going 4-5 with an RBI and four runs scored. Cameron Sheldon (4-5,triple,3 RBI), Sarah Sapia (3-5,2 doubles,3 RBI,2 runs), Jessie Schroeder (3-5,2 doubles,2 RBI,3 runs) and Elise Minichiello (3-4,2 RBI,2 runs) spearheaded the Canton offense. Carolyn Rau led the Granby hitters with a pair of singles and Katie Kelleher came on in relief and struck out two.
Monday, July 2nd
Manchester White 5, South Windsor 4. In a tight game that went into extra innings, Manchester White rallied to squeak out a win against South Windsor. Trixie Umali got the start for Manchester, struggling in the first with a tough South top of the order, but settled down to get the outs she needed. Allie Vitkus relieved for the last four innings and also had two hits, and RBI and scored a run. Kristin Gentilcore got the job done offensively for White with two key hits and 3 RBI, and played excellant defense at second. For South Windsor, Alicia Morrison played well overall, getting on base with a lead-off walk and scoring early to tie the game. Alyssa Wolejko pitched very well, throwing a complete game and striking out nine Manchester batters while walking just one. Rachel Leonardo played great defense in left field, and got on board for South during a 7th inning rally.
Suffield 13, Granby 0. Suffield Pink blanked visiting Granby 13-0 behind a no-hitter by Angie Moskwa, who struck out seven and was helped by the solid Pink defense. The offense was led by Emily Droney, who went 3-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored. Kylie Gifford hit two singles and scored a run. Granby played good overall team defense and Amy Rapuano pitched well in defeat.
Simsbury 10, Windsor 1. Simsbury downed Windsor 10-1 behind Kathleen Conway's 17-strikeout pitching effort. She also helped herself on offense, scoring three runs. Cailyn Welsh had a 2-run double to lead Simsbury's hitters. Melissa Nolan pitched a great game for Windsor, fanning 10 batters. She also accounted for the Windsor run with a towering double.
Vernon 8, Manchester Red 1. In a South Division match-up, Vernon bested Manchester Red by a score of 8-1. Dana Carpenter pitched well, scattering 4 hits, striking out 8 and issuing 4 walks. She helped her own cause with two base hits. Erin Selavka pitched an inning in relief, striking out two. Erin Skoly doubled and singled to pace Vernon. Brianna Levick had an outstanding game behind the plate in the absense of the starting catchers. Red's Ariel Diaz crushed a 3-0 pitch approximately 250' to straightaway center in the 5th inning, spoiling the shutout.
West Hartford 3, Canton 2. West Hartford defeated Canton 3-2, scoring all three of their runs in the 7th inning. With few strikeouts recorded, both teams had to make plays and the girls performed very well throughout the game. For West Hartford, Valerie Beyer hit a double , catcher Miranda Mantello was terrific defensively and was on base three times and Lucy Fracasso delivered the game-winning 2-run hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. Canton's Nicole Batan fielded brilliantly and was aggressive on the bases. Sarah Benedetti hit a double to lead their offense.
Ellington 13, Enfield Falcons 6. Ellington jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to a 13-6 win over the visiting Enfield Falcons. Ellington's offense was highlighted by Bridget Millane's triple and a double from Emily Savino. Ellington's pitcher, Courtney Horvath, survived an 8-hit Enfield attack, but the Ellington defense held off the Falcons. Enfield's Elyse Mahoney (2 hits) and Lauren Little (2 hits, 2 steals) provided their offense. Falcon shortstop Nicole Delano made several outstanding defensive plays.
Somers 6, Enfield Fireballs 4. In extra innings, Somers extinguished the Fireballs 6-4. Sarah Schulz went 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs, including the winning run. Kacey Oswell struck out nine batters and gave up just three hits. Becky Barry went 2 for 4 at the plate and drove in a run. For the Fireballs, Courtney Cannella pitched a good game and scored a run and Shawna Lothian had two hits.
Friday, July 6th
East Windsor at Enfield Falcons - rescheduled to Friday, July 13th.
Monday, July 9th
Enfield Fireballs 11, Enfield Falcons 0. The Fireballs beat the crosstown Falcons 11-0 behind the 13 strikeout performance of Courtney Cannella. Cara Angeloni led the offense with three hits and made a good play at third base. Amanda Meunier contributed with two doubles and Christine Scanlon played strong defense. For the Falcons, Ashley Poggie was outstanding defensively and had one of the three Falcon hits. Bonnie Zimmer also played a strong defense and had a hit. Jen Arnone chipped in with a single.
Manchester Red 5, Manchester White 4. A shorthanded Manchester Red got the best of their in-town rivals, Manchester White. Danielle Leone went the distance in the circle, earning the win, and she also drove in the winning run with a base hit in the bottom of the 6th inning. Emily Koehler had a key double for Manchester Red in the 6th inning and Ariel Diaz kept up her torrid hitting with another 2-run homerun for Red. Kelly Gentilcore was solid in the circle for Manchester White. White's offense was led by Yomarie Rodriguez, with two hits, and Trixie Umali, who reached base twice.
Vernon 7, Glastonbury 1. Vernon showed no signs of cooling off on a sweltering evening, beating Glastonbury 7-1. Erin Selavka went five innings, giving up a hit and two walks while striking out three. Dana Carpenter threw two innings in relief, surrendering a hit and a walk and also fanning three. Vernon was solid defensively, shutting down the active Glastonbury bats. Lauren Morency drove in the first Vernon run with a double in the bottom of the first inning. Brianna Levick added a triple for the home team. The Vernon lineup had 8 different players hitting safely on the night. Jess Philbrick was the "ball magnet", leading off two innings being hit by a pitch. Haylie Welcer was the offensive leader for Glastonbury and Amanda Longley worked five solid innings in the circle, allowing just two hits.
East Hartford 7, South Windsor 2. East Hartford defeated South Windsor 7-2. South's Allyson Fournier pitched an excellant game but a fielding error opened the floodgates as the Banshees scored five runs with two outs in the top of the 7th inning. Nicole Fox crushed the ball for South Windsor with a triple and two singles. East gave up two first-inning runs and Heather Trinks shut out SW the rest of the way. Sarah D'Attilio had 3 RBIs with a single and a triple for East Hartford. Lynne Foran had two singles and a key defensive out at second to end a South rally. Amanda Kennedy got the East Hartford rally started in the 7th for the Banshees.
Simsbury 7, Canton 1. Simsbury downed Canton 7-1 as Danielle Somen (8 Ks) and Kathleen Conway (6 Ks) combined for the win. Cailyn Welsh and Carly Williams had towering back-to-back hits. Seven individual Simsbury players scored runs. Monique Gauthier pitched well for Canton, striking out seven. Deanna Nappi hit a solid single to drive in Sarah Sapia for the lone Canton run.
Suffield 3, Windsor 2. Suffield downed division rival Windsor 3-2 in a well played game by both teams. Angie Moskwa went the distance for Pink, allowing only five hits while striking out five. Samantha Cieri went 2 for 3 on the night, driving in all three runs, including a clutch 2-run single in the bottom of the 7th to win the game. Pink's Barb Kaplan was again outstanding at shortstop, making every play hit to her. Windsor's Lauren Backhaus and Jen Lattal were solid in the circle, combining for eight strikeouts and allowing just five hits. Melissa Nolan accounted for both Windsor runs with a tremendous line drive homerun in the 5th inning.
Ellington 14, East Windsor 2. East Windsor opened and finished the game with Ginger Starvish triples, scoring on nice bunts by Jessica Szymanski, who had both RBI. Ellington had the offense and defense for the rest of the game for a 14-2 win. The offense was led by Bridget Millane (4-4), Jocelyn Close (3-4) and Alyssa Deland (3-4), with triples from Taylor Brown and Ashleigh Williams. Ellington pitcher Courtney Horvath pitched a complete game, striking out twelve. East Windsor's Heather St.Amour also pitched well in a complete game.
Granby 19, West Hartford 4 (5 innings). Visiting Granby got back on the winning track with a 19-5 five inning victory over West Hartford. Granby's Katie Kelleher pitched well, scattering six hits while striking out five. Granby was led offensively by Chrissy Cooper, who was 2-3 with two doubles and 3 RBIs, and Stephanie Hebert, who was 2-3 with a double and 4 runs batted in. West Hartford made several nice plays in the field, including an unassisted double play by the second baseman.
Wednesday, July 11th
Suffield 8, South Windsor 4. On a rainy night in a non-division battle, Suffield beat South Windsor, coming back from four runs down to win the game 8-4. South Windsor, with only seven players, jumped out to an early lead behind the strong hitting of Nicole Fox and Susan Orsini. Alyssa Wolejko shut down the Pink offense early, striking out nine of the first eleven batters that she faced and not allowing Suffield to take advantage of their lone outfielder. Pink finally broke through in the 4th inning, scoring four runs on five straight hits. Julie Muscarella led the offense with two homeruns and 4 RBIs. Lauren Mercik and Angie Moskwa combined for the Pink win.
East Windsor 13, West Hartford 2. East Windsor defeated West Hartford 13-2. Kelsey Mocadlo earned the win, scattering six hits, while Jillian Cote had two doubles and Kelly Strba had two hits. For West Hartford, Alyssa Oddo homered and Katie Sliva had two hits. Valerie Beyer pitched well but took the loss.
Windsor 7, Glastonbury 0. Windsor continued to improve its game this week by defeating Glastonbury 7-0 in a game shortened to 5 innings. Prior to the rains, Windsor pitchers Nina Varney, Jen Lattal and Melissa Nolan all contributed to the shutout. Caroline Aldrich had a strong defensive effort for Windsor. Glastonbury played it close, trailing 2-0 until the top of the fifth inning before allowing five runs. Hayley Hoge had a single and Katie Uricchio added two singles and an inning of scoreless relief pitching.
Simsbury 8, Manchester Red 0. The Simsbury pitching duo of Kathleen Conway and Danielle Somen combined for 16 strikeouts. Molly Williams and Kelsey LaBranche had doubles. Kathleen Conway and Carly Williams both went 2 for 3. Anna Piggott took the loss for Manchester, striking out five. Ariel Diaz and Hazel Sousa had hits.
Ellington 12, Granby 11. Ellington beat Granby 12-11 in a game with a wild finish. Granby struck first in the top of the first, then fell silent. Ellington got on track and had a 6-1 lead going to the top of the 7th inning. Granby, with two outs and the bases loaded, stunned the Ellington team with a 10-run rally for an 11-6 Granby lead with rain threatening. Ellington came back in the bottom of the 7th with consecutive hits and aggressive baserunning to score the six runs needed to take the win. Ellington's Kerry Sawamura, Grace Durgan, Taylor Brown and Bridget Millane all had two hits apiece. Granby's Stephanie Hebert went 2-3 with 4 RBI, including a 3-run homerun. Cami Rogers had a 2-run triple and Amy Rapuano a 2-run single.

Manchester Red 11, East Windsor 7. Manchester bested East Windsor 11-7 in a game that went back and forth. East jumped out to and early 3-0 lead after two innings. Manchester posted four runs in the top of the 4th inning to take a 4-3 lead, only to have East Windsor answer back with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th to retake the lead 7-4. Manchester's bats came alive in the 6th inning when they scored three runs to tie the game on Ariel Diaz' two-out bases-loaded triple, and then took the lead with 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning for the 11-7 victory. Danielle Leone came on in relief for Manchester and earned the win. The Red offense was paced by Diaz' two triples, Lindsey Johnson (triple, single) and Hazel Sousa's game winning RBI-triple in the seventh inning. East Windsor was led on offense by Kelsey Mocadlo, who had two hits and two stolen bases. East played solid defense, throwing out two Red runners at the plate.
Suffield 11, Manchester White 7. Suffield went on the road to defeat Manchester White 11-7. Angie Moskwa was outstanding in the circle, going the distance while scattering 5 hits and striking out nine. Whitney Mackay and Barb Kaplan led the offense for Pink, going a combined perfect 3-3, with 3 walks and four runs scored. Trixie Umali pitched well for Manchester, allowing only four hits through the first five innings. Kelly Gentilcore led the White offense, going 2-3 and a run scored.
South Windsor 23, West Hartford 6. South Windsor got its first U-16 win at home, defeating West Hartford 23-6. Emily Armstrong earned the win, pitching a complete game, and also did well offensively. Kiley Wood and Catie Holik each had two hits to lead the South hitters. Lily Hannigan had a double and two singles to pace the West Hartford offense. Valerie Beyer and Jenna Allen both had doubles.
Windsor 5, Ellington 4 (10 innings). In a thriller, Windsor defeated Ellington in 10 innings. Both teams played a great defensive game all night. Windsor's Jen Lattal pitched four innings of scoreless one-hit ball, assisted by Melissa Nolan, pitching 1 1/2 innings, and Lauren Backhaus pitching 4 1/2 scoreless innings to get the win. Defensively for Windsor, Erin McVeigh came up with a clutch catch in the 7th inning on the run in centerfield, turning it into a double play with runners on second and third with just one out, ending an Ellington rally. Allowing three runs in the first innings, Ellington's Courtney Horvath pitched very well thereafter, quieting Windsor's offense through four innings, before Morgan McPartland completed the game with a strong relief effort. They combined for eleven strikeouts and gave up seven hits. Jocelyn Close and Bridget Millane each had two hits.
Vernon 13, Enfield Falcons 7. Vernon downed the Falcons 13-7. Danielle Pelletier homered in the first inning for Enfield. Nicole Delano played well at shortstop and Lindsey DeFord had a good game in the circle.
Granby 15, Enfield Fireballs 9. Granby pulled out a 15-9 victory over the visting Enfield Fireballs. After falling behind 8-2, Granby rallied for nine runs in the bottom of the 4th inning, sending thirteen batters to the plate. The Granby rally was led by singles from Amy Rapuano, Stephany Hebert and Caroline Rau and a double from Stephanie Arnold. Amy Rapuano came in to quiet the Enfield bats with three innings of no-hit relief. Enfield was led by Morgan Caswell with two RBIs and a couple of nice fielding plays, and Christine Scanlon, who had a solid RBI-single.
Canton 7, Somers 1. Monique Gauthier earned the complete game win for Canton, striking out twelve. She also went 3-4 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Jessie Schroeder went 4-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Melissa Cahill, Elise Minichiello and Rose Minichiello all scored runs for Canton. Kacey Oswell scored Somers' lone run. Kara McGuane and Becky Barry had good games for Somers.

Suffield 5, Simsbury 0. Suffield defeated Simsbury behind Lauren Mercik's second complete game shutout of the season. Mercik was outstanding, throwing seven solid innings, allowing only two hits while striking out eight. The Pink offense was led by Michele Niejadlik (2 hits, RBI, 2 runs), Emily Droney (2 hits, 2 RBI, run) and Sam Cieri (2-3, double, 2 RBI, run). Simsbury's Kathleen Conway was equally solid in her performance, also throwing seven innings, allowing 10 hits and striking out fifteen. Grace Amato played a good game defensively and got one of the two Simsbury hits with a sharp single in the 2nd inning.
Vernon 10, South Windsor 0. Vernon remained undefeated, winning 10-0 at Ayers Road, South Windsor. Erin Selavka paced Vernon, pitching a complete game, giving up five hits and striking out five. She led her team at the plate as well, going 3-4 with a single, double and triple. Allison Burg chipped in with a bases-loaded triple and made an outstanding assist from centerfield to prevent a run, preserving the shutout. Vernon had an outstanding effort on defense from Emily Jablonecki and Jamie Vallarelli and another solid performance behind the plate from Kristin Messier. Alyssa Wolejko went the distance for South Windsor, surrendering eight hits and striking out ten. Susan Orsini was the offensive star with a double. Alicia Morrison behind the plate and Emily Armstrong at first base were standouts on defense for South Windsor.
Ellington 11, Somers 10. Ellington took an 8-2 lead after four innings with Brittany Boscarino, 3-3 with a double, supplying some of the offense. Somers then scored nine unanswered runs to take a 9-8 lead behind Shelby LaDue (double, 2 RBIs), Katie Trask (3-4, 2 RBIs) and Kacey Oswell (3-4, 3 runs). After Somers added another run in the top of the 6th inning, Ellington tied the game with a 2-out rally in the bottom of the frame. In the 7th, Courtney Horvath (8Ks) retired the next three Somers batters and Ellington then scored the deciding run on three straight hits from Grace Durgan (double), Courtney Carver and Morgan McPartland for the 11-10 win. Somers' Kacey Oswell pitched well, striking out seven, but took the loss.
Canton 14, Granby 13. Monique Gauthier picked up the win, pitching a complete game, striking out five. She helped herself by driving in three runs and scoring two. Melissa Cahill, making her catching debut, did a nice job behind the plate and went 3-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Melissa Parente (3-4, triple, 2 RBI), Elanna Sanger (3-4, double, 2 RBI) and Deanna Nappi (3-4, 2 runs) supplied more of the offensive firepower for Canton. Granby's Amy Rapuano was 4-5 with a triple and 3 runs scored. Amy Evans singled, doubled and scored twice. Carolyn Rau and Kristen Hammick each scored twice for Granby.

Somers 8, Ellington 4. Somers scored all eight runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to defeat visiting Ellington 8-4. Kacey Oswell went 3-4, including a 2-run double. She was also the winning pitcher, giving up only 5 hits while striking out six. Liz Mashiak played a good game at first base and had two hits. Kara McGuane and Becky Barry also chipped in with two hits each. For Ellington, Taylor Brown had two hits, including a double. Jen Spartz made an unassisted double play and Morgan McPartland had a hit and pitched well in the loss.
East Windsor 4, East Hartford 1. East Windsor defeated East Hartford 4-1, as both pitchers pitched 6-hitters. East Windsor's Heather St.Amour had a strong outing in the circle and Briana Matteson hit well. Abby Rodriguez had three hits, including a triple, for East Hartford and Sarah D'Attilio had an outstanding game behind the plate.
Monday, July 23rd
Ellington 13, Enfield Fireballs 12. The Fireballs started with a 4-run first inning and led the whole game until a 4-run Ellington rally in the bottom of the 7th inning claimed the game with a 13-12 win. Enfield's pitcher, Cara Angeloni (complete game), was 3 for 3, and the stellar Enfield defense of SS Sara Pliszka and outfielder Christine Scanlon kept Ellington at bay. Ellington's Taylor Brown had 4 RBIs, Brittany Boscarino (2 hits, 3 runs) and pitcher Courtney Horvath (8Ks, complete game) hit a 2-run triple and stole home to take the win.
East Hartford 7, Vernon 2. East Hartford downed Vernon 9-2 in a rain shortened game, played in an on and off drizzle. Dana Carpenter pitched well for Vernon in spite of the score, allowing only four hits while striking out eight. East Hartford used the speed of Lisa Donato, Jenna Allison and Marchary Davis to manufacture small-ball runs. Timely hitting by Amanda Kennedy and Ashley Appel drove in EH runs. Vernon first baseman Allison Burg and second baseman Elaina Donofrio had hits. East Hartford pitcher Heather Trinks was again masterful - 4 hits, 6 Ks and no walks.
Suffield 7, Canton 0. Suffield blanked Canton 7-0 behind Angie Moskwa's best U-16 outing of the summer. She threw a 7-inning no-hitter, striking out fourteen. Michele Niejadlik powered the Pink offense with a tremendous 3-run homerun in the first inning. Canton pitcher Sarah Benedetti settled down after the rough start and held Suffield hitless through the last four innings. Emily Droney played well defensively at 3rd base for Pink.
Somers 9, East Windsor 1. On a cool, rainy night in Somers, the home team beat visiting East Windsor by a score of 9-1. Throwing a 12-strikeout, 3-hit complete game, Kacey Oswell also went 3-3 at the plate, including a bases-clearing triple. Shelby LaDue was 2-3 and drove in a run. Adding to the Somers offensive were Camille Thomas, Kara McGuane, Monica Palmer and Becky Barry. Lindsey Mulnight drove in East Windsor's only run in the top of the 7th inning.Heather St.Amour pitched well and chipped in with a hit.

Somers 6, Suffield 4. Shorthanded Somers visited Suffield and handed the Pink their first loss of the season with a 6-4 decision. Kacey Oswell went the distance in the circle, striking out six and scattering seven hits. She also drove in two runs with a 2-out triple. Monica Palmer was solid behind the plate and she and Camille Thomas each had two hits and an RBI. Becky Barry plated the deciding run on a 1-out double in the 6th inning. Shelby LaDue played a great first base in a shorthanded infield. Playing left field, Sarah Schulz threw a strike to get the runner out at third base to end the 6th inning. For Suffield, Julie Muscarella had a good game behind the plate and Michele Niejadlik homered in the first inning.
Enfield Fireballs 8, Manchester White 6. The Enfield Fireball defeated visiting Manchester White 8-6 in a seesaw battle. Enfield scored first when winning pitcher Cara Angeloni led off the first inning with a double and came around to score. White responded with a 4-run second inning, capped by a 2-run double deep into the left centerfield gap by Taylor Sisson. Enfield rallied for five runs in the 4th with RBI-singles by Megan Chipman and Katie Krogmann. Krogmann also played a solid left field, highlighted by a nice running catch in the gap. Again, Manchester answered quickly, scoring a pair in the top of the 6th inning, led by Gaby Dube's clutch RBI-single. Dube was also outstanding behind the plate. In the bottom of the sixth, Enfield scored the deciding runs with Sarah Pierce's RBI-single being the pivotal hit.
East Windsor 6, Granby 4. East Windsor defeated Granby 6-4 with Kellt Strba (2 hits) and Kacie King (hit) leading the offense. Granby received strong pitching performances from Chrissy Cooper and Amy Rapuano.
Windsor 9, Enfield Falcons 1. Windsor won its fourth game in a row, defeating the Enfield Falcons 9-1 behind six strong innings from Nina Varney and one from Lauren Backhaus. Kailey Cagney had two hits on the night, including a deep double to centerfield. Also having a two hit night for Windsor were Cristina Flynn, Jessica Bilotta and Nina Varney. For the Falcons, Melissa Rome had a strong defensive night at shortstop and Erica Stephens pitched a complete game.
Manchester Red 5, Ellington 2. A shorthanded Manchester Red team defeated Ellington 5-2. Melanie Berman was solid in the circle for Red, picking up the win. Ariel Diaz and Jen Aronne played strong defense for Red, ehile Anna DiGregorio chipped in with a key hit in the 2nd inning. Ellington's Courtney Horvath pitched a solid game. Taylor Brown and Ashleigh Williams led their defense.

Thursday, July 26th
East Hartford 16, Manchester White 7. (from 7/18) Despite a loss by her Manchester team, Kristen Gentilcore was the number one star of this game. She led off the game with a double to the left centerfield gap and kept hitting and slapping the leather all evening. She ended with a triple, double and single as well as two outstanding plays from the shortstop position. However, East Hartford's team speed gradually took over the game after falling behind 5-0. The Banshees came roaring back, batting around the order in the 5th and 7th innings. Fot the White, starting pitcher Trixie Umali left with a lead after three innings and had two hits on offense. Yomarie Rodriguez had two hits as well as a stolen base to also be very solid for Manchester. Amanda Kennedy, for the second game in a row, led the East Hartford offense.
Monday, July 30th
Manchester Red 4, Granby 2. Manchester Red's Amanda Landry celebrated her Sweet 16 with a great game - great outfield play and laying down a great bunt on a squeeze play that proved to be the winning run. Anna Piggott was solid in the circle for Red, going the distance to earn the victory, and also chipped in with a key RBI in the seventh inning. Kudos to Lindsey Johnson for catching the entire game in the heat. Granby was led by Chrissy Cooper, who pitched well, and Amy Evans, who had two hits.
East Windsor 5, Vernon 4. East Windsor defeated Vernon 5-4 with Stacy Strba hitting a two-out, two-run double to break a 3-3 tie. Heather St.Amour reached base three times for East Windsor. For Vernon, Allison Burg tripled and doubled, with Brittani white reaching base twice and playing a solid defensive game.
West Hartford 9, Enfield Fireballs 7. West Hartford downed the Fireballs 9-7 behind Mary Provencher's fine pitching performance and strong defense from centerfielder Catherine Montagino, who had 6 assists. The Fireballs were led by Christine Scanlon (two hits, RBI) and Courtney Cannella, who had a double and two RBIs.

Enfield Fireballs 14, East Windsor 1. Enfield outscored East Windsor 14-1 behind an offense led by Amanda Meunier's two triples and a homerun with four RBIs. Morgan Caswell pitched well in relief for Enfield. East Windsor was led by the outstanding play of catcher Ginger Starvish who singled and was strong behind the plate, throwing out the only attempted steal. Kelly Strba and Kassandra King both had a pair of hits for East Windsor.
Manchester Red 6, East Hartford 5. Danielle Leone pitched a solid game for Manchester Red in picking up the 6-5 win over East Hartford. Leone helped her cause with a hit and two runs scored. Melanie Berman had the game-winning RBI for Red in the top of the 7th inning. East Hartford was led by the pitching of Heather Trinks. Lisa Donato had a good game behind the plate and also chipped in with a triple in the 1st inning for East.
Vernon 4, Manchester White 0. Dana Carpenter had a good outing in the circle, leading Vernon to a 4-0 win over Manchester White. She gave up just three hits, walked two and struck out six. Vernon's defense, preventing White from getting a runner beyond second base, was led by Brianna Levick behind the plate (two caught stealing) and Erin Selavka in left field. Levick also doubled, leading the Vernon offense. Manchester White's pitchers, Allie Vitkus, Trixie Umali and Kelly Gentilcore, held Vernon to four hits, walked five and struck out seven. Yomarie Rodriguez had a busy, but error-free night in left field. Sarah Bonino reached safely in all her plate appearances.
Simsbury 7, Granby 1. Simsbury scored three runs in the 3rd inning with two outs and never looked back, defeating Granby 7-1. Maddy MaManus had two hits and scored a run. Bridget Cook scored two runs and did an excellant job behind the plate defensively. Carolyn Rau scored the Granby run and also did an excellant job of catching. Kristin Hammick had two awesome bunts.
Canton 3, Windsor 1. Monique Gauthier went the distance for Canton, striking out five. Melissa Cahill doubled and scored and also made three great catches in centerfield. Sarah Sapia, Nicole Batan and Cameron Sheldon all had hits for Canton. Nina Varney pitched well for Windsor, striking out six in six innings. Melissa Nolan tripled and Jenna Marris singled and scored Windsor's only run.
Enfield Falcons 11, Somers 4. Lauren Little pitched the Enfield Falcons part Somers 11-4. Natalie Kyparadis and Danielle Pelletier homered for the Falcons.
South Windsor 3, Glastonbury 0. South Windsor got its second well-fought win. Emily Armstrong pitched very well for the entire game. Alicia Morrison caught the full seven innings in the heat and did a great job. Haley Howard had two hits for Glastonbury. Amanda Longley relieved in the 4th inning and allowed no hits for the remainder of the game.

Vernon 10, Somers 5. (from 7/12) Erin Selavka went the distance, giving up six hits, five walks and recording 12 strikeouts. She also was solid at the plate, going 2-3 with a double. Brianna Levick played another outstanding game behind the plate and went 3-3 on the night. Dana Carpenter and Jamie Vallarelli chipped in with two hits each. Somers' JoJo Meunier and Kacey Oswell combined to give up 11 hits and 6 walks, striking out seven. Monica Palmer was a standout for Somers, both catching and hitting, going 2-3 with a double. Georgia Burke reached base and scored in both the 3rd and 5th innings.

Somers 9, Enfield Fireballs 8. Somers edged out the visting Enfield Fireballs 9-8. Sarah Schulz, Shelby Ladue and Brittany Irish all had two hits each for Somers. Kacey Oswell got the win. For the Fireballs, Amanda Meunier had three hits, including a 3-run homer. Sarah Pliszka played a great defensive game and had two hits.Courtney Cannella chipped in with two hits also.
Ellington 8, Enfield Falcons 6. Ellington won its regular season finale, 8-6 against a determined Enfield Falcons team. Ellington led 8-3 after 5 innings, but Enfield scored three in the sixth to make it close again. The Falcons' shortstop, Nicole Delano, second baseman Mel Rome and right fielder Kara Follo all played well. Ellington pitcher Morgan McPartland, who struck out five, was backed by a stiff defense. Alyssa Deland (3 runs), Grace Durgan (2 hits) and Kerry Sawamura (2 hits) provided the offense.
Manchester Red 9, Vernon 7. Manchester Red came out on top in a game that went back and forth. Vernon fought back, scoring three in the 2nd inning and then three in the 3rd inning to take the lead. Manchester retook a 9-6 lead with four runs in the top of the 5th inning, with Melanie Berman's triple the big hit. The feisty Vernon team scored a run in their half of the 5th to close the gap to 9-7, but could get no closer. Vernon made it interesting in the 7th by loading the bases, but Manchester was able to hold them off. Berman got the win for Red, with a little 7th inning relief help from Danielle Leone. For Vernon, Brianna Levick and Allison Burg were both 2-4 with doubles. Kelly Falkowski hit a long triple to left in the 2nd inning that got Vernon's rally started.
Suffield 5, Granby 0. Suffield ended their regular season with a 5-0 victory over division rival Granby. Lauren Mercik pitched her third complete game shutout of the season, allowing only two hits and striking out seven. Sam Cieri led the Pink offense, going 2-3 with a double and 2 RBIs. Mercik also helped herself at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI. Michele Niejadlik was again solid in the field for Pink at second base. Granby's Julie Marks pitched very well, allowing only six hits and striking out 14. Carolyn Rau was solid behind the plate for Granby.
Windsor 17, Simsbury 1. Windsor downed Simsbury 17-1, with the complete lineup contributing offensively behind strong pitching performances by Jen Lattal and Lauren Backhaus. Simsbury pulled up two young pitchers for the game and Cailyn Welsh had a good defensive night at second base.
East Hartford 5, Glastonbury 0. East Hartford doused the Glastonbury Heat 5-0 behind the pitching of MVP nominee Heather Trinks, who gave up just one hit to Heat catcher Lindsay Rader. Heather fanned six and walked one in five innings before retiring to watch her teammate finish the game. The Banshees, who had only six hits, were led by Lynne Foran's two hits, two runs and one RBI. Lisa Donato, who plays every position for East Hartford, was, as always, the catalyst to start the game: single, passed ball, score on a single. Glastonbury shortstop Haley Welcer was a vacuum cleaner for the Heat, as EH was putting the bat on the ball solidly and Haley kept throwing them out. Glastonbury centerfielder Rachel Hove made several running catches on well-hit balls to deny the Banshees further scoring opportunities.

Tuesday, August 7th
Simsbury 13, Canton 6. (from 6/20) Simsbury scored six runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. Molly Williams, Annie Grakowski and Olivia Eagan each scored twice for the winners. Canton fell behind 13-1 but put on a great rally in the 6th inning to score five runs.
Wednesday, August 8th
East Hartford 4, Glastonbury 2. East Hartford took a 3-0 lead into the 6th inning and had to withstand a Heat rally. Glastonbury left runners on 2nd and 3rd as Lindsey Rader drove the ball to deep left only to have Ashley Appel bring in it for the final out of the inning. Ashley then drove in Rachel Dakin with a double in the Banshee half of the 6th for an insurance run. Lynne Foran continued her timely hitting with a two-out, two-run single in the first inning for East Hartford. Although East scored three times in the first after two were out, starting with Jenna Allison's single, a great line drive stab by Heat shortstop Katie Uricchio prevented an even bigger inning by the Banshees. Haylie Welcer again proved difficult for East Hartford as she was on base all three at bats.
Enfield Fireballs 14, East Windsor 4. The Fireballs torched East Windsor 14-4 in their regular season finale. The offense started quickly, with six runs in the first and five more in the third, highlighted by a Megan Chipman triple (one of three hits) and scoring on one of Katie Krogmann's two hits on the night. Tori Benoit played a solid defense and contributed two hits for Enfield. Sarah Pliszka also had a good game at the plate with three hits. East Windsor scored in the 4th when Emilee Golden walked and came around on Chelsee Parker's single. They scored two more in the 6th when defensive standout Allie Riches turned an Enfield miscue into a 2-run homerun. Heather St.Amour was the hard luck loser with a solid effort in the circle.
South Windsor 2, Manchester Red 1. (from 7/23) South Windsor edged Manchester Red as Alyssa Wolejko earned the win, going the distance and scattering five hits. Susan Orsini went 2-3 and moved the deciding run into scoring position in the 7th inning. Marianne Specker caught a good defensive game and drove in the winning run. Anna Piggott pitched very well for Manchester Red, also going the distance and allowing only two runs. Lindsey Johnson had a good night at the plate, going 2 for 3.
Windsor 7, West Hartford 1. (from 7/18) Windsor ended its regular season with a 7-1 win over West Hartford. Windsor utilized three pitchers, Lauren Backhaus, Jen Lattal and Nina Varney for the victory, with Lattal smashing a towering homerun to left field. Jessica Bilotta also had a two-hit night for Windsor. West Hartford played shorthanded but did well defensively. Valerie Beyer drove in the lone WH run and Mary Provencher finished with five strong innings in the circle.

Thursday, August 9th
Manchester White 5, South Windsor 4. (from 8/6) Manchester White capped off their regular season with an 8-inning victory of neighboring South Windsor. Emily Armstrong pitched a complete game for South, holding White to only one run through five innings, striking out five. Katie Holik and Ashley Tremonte both went 2-4 at the plate for South. Kelly Gentilcore earned the win for Manchester, pitching a complete game, striking out seven and going 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Allie Vitkus (2 RBIs, run) drove in the winning run for White and was part of a 3-run rally that tied the game in the 6th inning. Kristin Gentilcore, Trixie Umali and Taylor Sisson all scored runs for Manchester.
