Monday, June 16th
South Windsor 4, Manchester White 0. South Windsor opened their season with a 4-0 blanking of Manchester White. South struck quickly, scoring all four runs in the first inning. Tori Thomson & Caitie Holik had hits and Steph Rahm capped the scoring with a long sacrifice fly. Emily Armstrong pitched a strong game by keeping the Manchester hitters off balance. Manchester was led by fine pitching by Trixi Umali and Allie Vitkus. Sara Bonino played well and had a long double to left field. Both teams played excellant defense & South played error-free in the rain-shortened, 5-inning game.
Manchester Red 1, Coventry 0. Manchester Red and Coventry kicked off their seasons with a pitcher's duel in Coventry. Manchester's Danielle Leone got the win, throwing a no-hitter and striking out twelve. Lauren Mazzoni drove in Erin Butler for the game's lone run. Emma Polinski pitched a good game for Coventry, scattering seven hits but only giving up one run.
Enfield Fireballs at Enfield Falcons - suspended in 2nd inning; to be resumed Friday, July 25th as part of doubleheader.
VernonII at VernonI - rescheduled to Wednesday, August 6th.
East Windsor at Tolland - suspended after 3 innings; to be continued Friday, August 1st at East Windsor.
Tuesday, June 17th
Ellington 3, Somers 2. Ellington edged Somers 3-2 in the season opener for both teams. Morgan McPartland pitched a complete game and Jocelyn Close, Taylor Brown and Samantha Harney had key hits. For Somers, JoJo Meunier also went the distance, striking out fifteen. She was aided by hits from Jessica Conlon, Erika Dubanoski and Liz LaVallee.
Wednesday, June 18th
Manchester White 7, Manchester Red 6. Manchester White rallied in the 6th inning to defeat cross town rival Manchester 7 to 6. For White, Allie Vitkus and Trixi Umali pitched well and were backed by Taylor Sisson, Natasha Gomes and Kira Shaikh offensively. Manchester Red was led by pitcher Anna Piggott, who also had 4 RBIs, Katie Sirois (2 hits) and Ariel Diaz, who crushed a solo homer. Defensively, Ashley Gall and Heather Ferranti played well.
VernonI 12, Coventry 1. VernonI downed Coventry 12-1 behind the hitting of Jess Philbrick (2 doubles), Kelly Cocco (triple & single), Kristin Messier (2 singles) and Kelly Robichaud (triple & single). Erin Selavka gave up just two hits, struck out five and walked five to get the win. For Coventry, Emma Polinski and Josie LoRicco singled and Brittney Pietro walked twice and scored.
Suffield 4, West Hartford 3. Suffield opened their season with a 4-3 win over West Hartford at Bruce Park. Angie Moskwa earned the complete game win, scattering five hits and striking out fourteen. Maggie Reeves and Angie Moskwa scored one each for Suffield and Colleen Moroney scored twice. West Hartford pitcher Valerie Beyer allowed just three hits while striking out seven, and was aided by some stellar outfield play from Zoe Mendal and Jen Allen. The game was tied in the seventh inning with one out and Moroney on second base when Alyssa Wagner drove a line drive to left center to end the game. Wagner went 2 for 3 to lead the Suffield offense.
Ellington at Enfield Falcons - postponed by rain to Tuesday, June 24th.
VernonII at South Windsor - suspended in the 2nd inning; to be resumed Thursday, August 7th.
Tolland at Somers - rescheduled to Tuesday, July 22nd.

Tuesday, June 24th
Ellington 9, Enfield Falcons 1. (from 6/18) Ellington beat the Enfield Falcons by a score of 9 to 1. Jen Spartz had a double and made two nice catches in the field. Taylor Brown had two hits, including a double, and Kailyn Lundeberg played well defensively and scored two runs. Jen Arnone, Taylor Droney and Raquel White played well for the Falcons.
Wednesday, June 25th
East Windsor 1, Ellington 0. East Windsor's Kelsey Mocadlo pitched a complete game 3-hit shutout. Kacie King scored the games' only run with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Julie Matteson sacrificed her to second with a bunt followed by Ginger Starvish's game-winning RBI single. Ellington pitcher Morgan McPartland scattered four hits and struck out eight. Jocelyn Close singled and Alyssa Deland doubled for two of Ellington's hits.
Suffield 11, Granby 8. The Suffield U-16 girls defeated Granby 11-8 in a long, well-played game by both teams. Katie Kelleher pitched for Granby, keeping Suffield off the bases for several innings. Chloe Frechette was exceptional defensively in the outfield, while Kristin Watterlond led the Granby offense in the first inning, driving in two runs with a double to left. After a shaky first inning defensively, where Suffield allowed four unearned runs, the defense settled down behind an outstanding performance by Kylie Gifford, who pitched a complete game two-hitter to earn the win. Julie Muscarella, Maggie Reeves nd Angie Moskwa led the Suffield offense, each scoring two runs, with Muscarella going 2 for 3 at the plate and Moskwa driving in three runs on a homerun over the fence at Salmon Brook Park.
Coventry 4, Manchester White 3 (8 innings). Coventry edged Manchester White 4-3 in an extra-inning nailbiter. The Coventry offense was led by Brittney Pietro (triple), Lindsay LaChance (triple), Josie LoRicco (RBI-single) and Briana Swanbon (single & game-winning RBI). After being the victim of two unearned runs in the first inning, Emma Polinski settled down and kept the White hitters off balance the rest of the way (5 hits, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk). Coventry scored runs in the 4th and 5th to tie the score at 2-2. In the top of the 8th inning, Coventry scored two runs to take the lead on key hits by LoRicco and Swanbon. In the bottom half of the inning, Manchester came back and scored a run but left the tieing run at first. For White, Allie Vitkus pitched a good game, striking out seven and issuing just one walk. Sarah Bonino had two hits and Erica Battle made several nice catches in right field.
VernonI 2, South Windsor 1. All the scoring occured in the first inning as Vernon took advantage of some early miscues to score twice and Michelle Scanlon homered for South Windsor. Vernon pitcher Kelly Cocco and South pitcher Allison Fournier shut down the offenses the rest of the way. Cocco gave up four hits, struck out 11 and walked none. Fournier gave up five hits, struck out 14 and walked five. Vernon was assisted by solid defensive play from Erin Skoly and Bri Levick. Stephanie Belanger played well in the field for South Windsor.
Manchester Red 7, VernonII 5. Manchester Red defeated VernonII in a game that went back and forth. Manchester jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning, but Vernon tied it up in the bottom of the third. Manchester scored four in the 4th inning to take a 5-1 lead, but Vernon responded with four in the 5th inning to retie the game 5-5. After a scoreless 6th inning, Manchester scored two in the top of the 7th and this proved to be the winning margin. Katie Sirois pitched five solid innings for Manchester, giving way to Anna Piggott in the sixth inning. Manchester's offense was led by Ariel Diaz, who had a homerun, triple and single. Emily Koehler chipped in with a triple. A solid team effort for Manchester. Vernon was led by Shannon Fish (2 hits) and Mandy Guzman (triple).
Glastonbury 3, Windsor 2. Glastonbury was led by a strong pitching performance by Amanda Longley, who pitched a complete game, striking out 10 and walking none. Windsor also had a strong pitching performane from Nina Varney, who had nine strikeouts in this pitcher's duel. Glastonbury scored the first run of the game in the 5th inning as Longley singled, stole second and then scored on an RBI-single by Lindsey Rader. Jennifer Flynn scored for Windsor in the 6th inning to tie the score. Glastonbury countered in the 7th inning on an infield single by Longley scoring Hayley Howard and Claudia Cassarino's fielder's choice scored Katie Uricchio. Windsor tacked on a run in their half of the 7th but Glastonbury held on for the win. The Windsor offense was also led by Adrienne Edwards, who smashed a triple over the left fielder's head in the 3rd inning.
West Hartford 11, Canton 7. Carrie Corrigan pitched five innings, striking out five and allowing three runs, to earn the win for West Hartford. Ali Stevens had two hits and two RBIs. Libby Kain pitched a complete game for Canton, striking out nine. Elise Minichiello had a hit and scored two runs and Christina Cardwell had a hit and 2 RBIs.
Somers 5, Enfield Falcons 2.
Tolland at Enfield Fireballs - postponed to Monday, August 4th.
Thursday, June 26th
Windsor 3, Enfield Falcons 2. Lauren Backhaus was the winning pitching, recording 14 strikeouts, as Windsor edged the Enfield Falcons 3 to 2. Melissa Marris had two hits and scored Windsor's first run. Shauna Greene tied the game on a delayed steal of home in the 5th inning. Katie Dulz doubled and was driven in by Alyssa Moskites for Windsor's third run in the 6th inning. For the Falcons, Lauren Little struck out 10 and drove in Enfield's first run in the first inning. Jen Arnone had two hits and scored both of Enfield's runs. Lindsey Droney also had a good night at the plate for the Falcons.
Friday, June 27th
Enfield Fireballs at East Windsor (from 6/18) - rescheduled to Friday, July 18th as part of doubleheader at ADH/Enfield.
Monday, June 30th
Enfield Falcons 6, East Windsor 2. The Falcons downed East Windsor 6-2 as Lauren Little pitched a 4-hitter and went 3 for 3 at the plate with 3 RBIs. Jen Arnone was 2 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored. Sarah Moynihan went 2 for 3. Ginger Starvish (hit and walk), Lindsay Mulnite (double) and Kyla Mocadlo (hit and walk) carried the East Windsor offense.
Ellington 7, Tolland 6. Ellington edged Tolland 7-6 as Morgan McPartland pitched, played well defensively and scored two runs. Joanna DiStefano and Kailyn Lundeberg had good games on defense for Ellington. For Tolland, Mindy Shannon had three hits, Alex D'Aloisio had two hits and Meghan Ciccarelli played well defensively and also had a hit.
VernonII 6, Coventry 5. VernonII got by Coventry 6-5. Kristin Compolongo led the victor's offense with two hits and two runs driven in. Shantoy Miller made some outstanding plays behind the plate and Sarah Carpenter pitched a solid complete game. Lindsay LaChance was solid behind the plate for Coventry. Susan Blake was strong on defense and Kaitlyn Morton had a good game.
VernonI 11, Manchester White 2. VernonI had a hot night in Manchester led by Kelly Robichaud (2-run HR, 2-run single, 4 RBI), Erin Skoly (RBI double), Brianna Levick, Elaina Donofrio and Jamie Vallarelli (2 hits each). Erin Selavka went the distance for Vernon, giving up 3 hits, no walks, 9 Ks and 2 HBP. Manchester White's offense was led by Allie Vitkus (double, single) and Erica Battle (2 HBP....ouch !).Defensively, Gaby Dube was outstanding behind the plate and Michelle Graboski played solidly at shortstop.
Suffield 17, Canton 12. Stephanie Guminiak pitched three solid innings, allowing four runs and striking out four as Suffield outlasted Canton by a 17-12 score. Samantha Guzzi also pitched well, allowing two runs in two innings and striking out three. Suffield's offense was sparked by Alyssa Wagner and Kelly Kenney with 3 hits apiece. Pitcher Libby Kain (1 hit), Nicole Batan (1 hit, 2 runs scored) and Deanna Nappi (1 hit, 3 runs scored) were standouts for Canton.
Enfield Fireballs 3, Somers 1. In spite of a brilliant 15 strikeout, one-hit performance by Somers' JoJo Meunier, the Enfield Fireballs managed to leave with a 3-1 win. Enfield scraped runs in the first, third and sixth innings with scores by Lindsey Deford, Jenn Serafin and Sarah Pierce. Amanda Meunier had the Fireballs' lone hit. Becky Barry scored the Somers run on a fielder's choice after walking in the sixth inning. Meunier and Jessica Conlon had the Somers hits. Winning pitcher Courtney Cannella (2 hits, 5 Ks) was supported by the errorless defense led by Deford and Morgan Caswell.
South Windsor 7, Manchester Red 2. Emily Armstrong got the complete game win for South Windsor, with seven strikeouts and just one walk. Manchester's Anna Piggott also pitched well and kept the game scoreless through the first three innings. South's bats came alive in the later innings led by Michelle SCanlon (3 hits), Tori Thomson (3 hits), Caitie Holik (3 hits) and Steph Rahm (HR). Lindsey Johnson played well for Red behind the plate, throwing out two baserunners at second. Amanda Landry had a long double in the 7th inning starting a potential comeback, but Armstrong was up to the task by inducing another groundout to squelch the rally.
Windsor 3, Granby 0. Lauren Backhaus pitched the 3-0 shutout for Windsor, striking out eleven. All the scoring occurred in the 3rd inning with Kaiya Hill's walk, Katie Dulz' single, Meredith Atwater's sac bunt, Alyssa Moskites' RBI-single, Kaetlin Perry's RBI-groundout and Adrienne Edwards' RBI-single. Melissa Marris and Shawna Miller made some nice defensive plays to hold Granby scoreless. Shauna Greene also made a great assist from centerfield to first base.
Glastonbury 4, West Hartford 3 (8 innings). Glastonbury and WEst Hartford battled through eight innings, with Glastonbury coming out on top with the International tie breaker in effect. The winners were led by the great pitching of Hayley Hoge (11 strikeouts, 2 walks, 3 hits) who went the distance. With the game tied 2-2 after 7 innings, West Hartford scored in their half of the 8th inning on an RBI double by Maureen Martucci. Glastonbury's 8th inning started with a bunt base hit by Hayley Hoge, which allowed Hayley Howard to advance to third base. With runners at the corners, Glastonbury was able to take the victory on an error by West Hartford as Hoge attempted to steal 2nd base. Both runners scored on the play. West Hartford was led by a strong pitching performance by Val Beyer (6 Ks) and offensively by Danielle Stevens' double. The Glastonbury hitters were led by Hoge (2 hits) and Howard (2 runs scored).
Tuesday, July 1st
Canton at Enfield Falcons - suspended by rain in the 3rd inning; to be resumed Friday, July 18th.
Wednesday, July 2nd
Suffield 3, Somers 1. Pitchers Angela Moskwa and JoJo Meunier dueled in a very entertaining game. Both were exceptional, with a 2-run 4th inning being the difference maker for Suffield. Kelly Kenney and Taryn Scozzari provided the only Suffield hits. Becky Barry led the Somers offense with two hits.
Enfield Fireballs 17, Coventry 7. The Enfield Fireballs, led by the pitching of Cara Angeloni, bested Coventry 17 to 7. The Enfield offense was led by Amamda Meunier's 5 RBIs. Sarah Plizska and Morgan Caswell chipped in with four runs scored apiece. Plizska also added three hits. Coventry had a strong performance from pitcher & 1st baseman Josie LoRicco, who pitched well, played outstanding defense and contributed three hits. Catcher Lindsay LaChance was solid defensively and added two hits to Coventry's offense. Kaitlin Morton scored two runs.
South Windsor 12, Ellington 1. South's Allyson Fournier pitched a masterful game, collecting 16 strikeouts, while giving up only three bunt singles. Ellington kept the game close through five innings with fine defense from Grace Durgan at 3rd base and Joanna DiStefano at several positions. South Windsor busted out in the 6th inning with six consecutive hits, puncuated by a Steph Belanger triple. Aubrie Mazur (2 hits), Sami Sutay (fine defense in centerfield) and Nicole Sylvester (2 hits) starred in the later innings.
East Windsor 2, Windsor 0. East Windsor defeated Windsor 2-0 as winning pitcher Kelsey Mocadlo and Windsor's Lauren Backhaus (12 Ks) matched one-hitters. Kayla Hersom has East Windsor's only hit and Melissa Wabble played great defense at 2nd base. Shauna Greene had Windsor's lone hit and Melissa Morris had a great defensive game at 2nd base.
VernonI 4, West Hartford 3. With only 8 players available, VernonI managed to beat the odds and hold off a tenacious West Hartford lineup 4-3. Vernon managed only two singles off West Hartford's pitcher, Val Beyer, but took advantage of some miscues to hang in for the win. West Hartford started off quickly with a single from Mallory Martucci followed by an RBI-triple from Maureen Martucci in the top of the first. Mallory Martucci (2 hits, run scored), Maureen Martucci (triple, single, RBI, run scored) and Alyssa Oddo (double, single) led West Hartford's offense. Val Beyer (2 hits, 3 Ks, 2 walks, 2 HBP) went the distance in the circle for West Hartford. Vernon's offense was a single each from Jess Bonneville and Jess Philbrick. The two-player outfield of Vernon, Bonneville and Kelly Falkowski, made several great plays including an assist from Bonneville, throwing out a runner advancing toward 3rd base in the 2nd inning. Erin Selavka (10 hits, 7 Ks, 2 walks) went the distance for Vernon.
Granby 8, Manchester Red 7. Granby held off a strong Manchester Red team 8-7 on a walk-off base hit by Desi Piette, who went 3 for 4 and also had five putouts in centerfield. She singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Granby the win. Sara Hammick also had two RBIs for Granby. Katie Sirois pitched very well for Manchester. Emily Koehler had two hits, including a double to the fence, and drove in four runs.
Tolland 17, VernonII 5. Alex D'Aloisio pitched a grat game for Tolland, striking out thirteen. She helped her cause at the plate with a double, two singles and two runs scored. Kim Tanguay had a double, three singles and two runs scored. Brittany DeCarli had three singles and scored three runs. For Vernon, Kristen Campolongo had a single and scored two runs, Kassandra Wemmell had a great defensive game and Shannon Fish scored a run and had a good game in the field.
Glastonbury 6, Manchester White 2. Amanda Longley went the distance for Glastonbury, striking out seven and surrendering only one hit. Longley also contributed offensively with an RBI-triple and a single. Lindsey Rader had a solid performance behind the plate and also added an RBI-single in the 2nd inning. Amanda Bogue (single, run scored), Hayley Hoge (double, run scored) and Hayley Howard (single, 2 runs scored) rounded out the Glastonbury offense. Manchester's offense was led by Kira Shaikh, who doubled. Natasha Gomes and Taylor Sisson made fine defensive plays in the field for White.
Monday, July 7th
Tolland 6, Enfield Falcons 1. Enfield scored first on a double by Jen Arnone. Tolland went ahead in the 3rd inning when Alison Whitlock drove in Karen Duhamel on an RBI-groundout. Duhamel finished with three walks, a single and two runs scored. Alyssa Yavis, Kim Tanguay (RBI) and Kelsey Arnet each had singles. Alex D'Aloisio threw a 3-hit, 16 strikeout complete game and also had two singles on offense. Lauren Little and Nicolini Frank also had hits for the Falcons.
Somers 3, East Windsor 2. JoJo Meunier was the winning pitcher, striking out 12 and walking only one. She also went 2 for 3 on offense, driving in a run. Jessica Conlon drove in the winning run in the top of the 6th inning. Liz Mashiak had three putouts at second base. Kelly Strba, Lindsay Mulnite and Brianna Matteson played well for East Windsor.
Ellington 4, Enfield Fireballs 3 (8 innings). Ellington edged the Fireballs 4-3 in 8 innings. The game featured a triple play started by Sarah Plizska of Enfield in the 1st inning. Amanda Meunier had a double and a nice outfield assist while Courtney Cannella pitched well for Enfield. Ellington's Courtney Carver scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning after Ellington scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score. Jen Spartz had two hits and played well in the outfield with two nice catches. Christina DiStefano had two hits and Morgan McPartland (10 Ks) pitched well for Ellington.
VernonII 5, Manchester White 4. In a game that wasn't decided until the 7th inning, Vernon's Shantoy Miller had two hits on the night, including the game winner. Shantoy was also strong on defense at shortstop. Ashley Barselau had a single and was strong on the bases. Shannon Fish also helped on offense with a hit and good baserunning. For Manchester White, Gaby Dube was solid behind the plate and helped her team with two hits, scoring twice. Allie Vitkus was strong in the circle and also had two hits. Steph Dumont had a single and played well defensively.
Granby 5, West Hartford 4. Granby beat West Hartford 5-4 in a tight game. Val Beyer pitched exceptionally well for West Hartford, striking out 9 Granby batters while giving up just one hit and two earned runs. Mallory Martucci had two hits, including a 2-run double, for West Hartford. Granby played smallball and capitalized on some West Hartford miscues. Chloe Frechette had Granby's lone hit. Angela Petrunti played well defensively, saving the game with a nice play from second base for the final out.
VernonI 2, Manchester Red 1. Any area softball fan would not miss a matchup between VernonI's Kelly Cocco and Danielle Leone of Manchester Red. The game lived up to the hype with VernonI prevailing 2-1. Lindsey Johnson led off the game with a double and ended up scoring on a fielder's choice. That capped Manchester Red's run output for the night as Kelly Cocco settled in, surrendering only two singles the rest of the way. She struck out 13, including nine consecutive, walked one and had two HBP. Manchester's Danielle Leone pitched a strong game as well with 14 Ks, no walks and giving up seven hits, one being a 2-run double by Jessica Bonneville in the 4th inning. Cocco and Erin Selavka each had two hits for Vernon. Lindsey Johnson (double, single) provided Manchester's spark at the plate.
Suffield 3, Windsor 0. The Suffield U-16 girls defeated Windsor 3-0 in a close, well-played game at Welch Park in Windsor. Lauren Backhaus pitched for Windsor, allowing only five hits over the seven innings and striking out nine batters. April Flores and Kaiya Hill both played exceptional defense behind Backhaus' pitching performance. Angie Moskwa earned the shutout win for Suffield, allowing only three hits and striking out eight. The Suffield offense was led by hits by Moskwa and Maggie Reeves, who both scored on a linedrive single by Kylie Gifford in the second inning.
South Windsor 16, Coventry 4. South broke open the game by scoring 10 runs in the 3rd inning. Steph Belanger (4 hits) collected a double and a single in the frame. Emily Armstrong helped herself by driving in a run with a single. Tori Thomson (2 hits), Nicole (B-day) Sylvester (double) and Kiley Wood also contributed to the potent attack. Emma Polinski came in and did a great job of taming South's bats by allowing just one run in the 4 innings that she pitched. Coventry played hard throughout the contest, with Kaitlin Morton making several fine plays at shortstop. Lindsay LaChance once again showed off her strong arm as catcher, gunning down two runners at 2nd base. Emily Armstrong again pitched a complete game, inducing many groundouts with her change of speeds. She excelled in the circle with her defense as well.
Glastonbury 17, Canton 3. Hayley Hoge pitched a complete game for Glastonbury, striking out 11 Canton batters, in their victory at home. The offensive attack was led by Hoge (2 hits), Hayley Howard (hit, 3 runs scored), Katie Uricchio (double, run scored), Nikki Phillips (2 hits, 2 runs scored) and Claudia Cassarino (3 runs scored). Canton pitcher Libby Kain played well while Deanna Nappi made some fine defensive plays at 3rd base.
Wednesday, July 9th
Enfield Fireballs 6, Granby 5 (8 innings). Enfield outlasted Granby in a see-saw game. Granby started the scoring when Sara Hammick and Kristen Watterlond crossed the plate in the top of the second inning. Watterlond contributed two doubles and an RBI to the Granby effort. Enfield came back in the bottom of the frame when catcher Natalie Kyparidis (2 for 3, 2 runs, 2 RBI) led off with a double and scored on Cara Angeloni's RBI-single. Enfield added another run in the 4th when Lindsey DeFord led off with a single and scored on Morgan Caswell's RBI-double. The bats went silent until the 7th inning when Jennalee Kulig scored on Anna Glassman's RBI-double. But in the bottom of the 7th, Enfield's Lindsey DeFord got her second single of the game and scored her second run on Morgan Caswell's second hit and second RBI of the game. In the extra frame, Granby scored twice when Addie Koehler and Kristen Kelleher scored when Kristen Watterlond got her second double and RBI of the game. But some clutch hitting in the bottom of the 8th by Amanda Meunier, Kyparidis (RBI) and Katie Schienda (RBI) finished the scoring for the evening giving Enfield the 6-5 win. Granby's Kelleher pitched a strong game, finishing with 8Ks, and Enfield's Courtney Cannella matched the effort with 7 strikeouts.
VernonI 10, Glastonbury 1. VernonI defeated visiting Glastonbury by the score of 10-1. Erin Selavka went 4 innings (1 hit, 5 Ks, 1 BB, 1 HBP) and Kelly Cocco went three (1 hit, 5 Ks) in the win. Selavka was also productive at the plate with a 3-run triple and a single. Jess Bonneville, Allison Burg, Brianna Levick, Jess Philbrick and Jamie Vallarelli also had hits. Vernon's stingy defense was solid, making only one error despite missing some starters. Glastonbury also had to play shorthanded with several key players unavailable for the game. Christine Dalton and Katie Uricchio (single each) and Lindsey Rader (HBP, run scored) sparked the Glastonbury offense. Elena Umbach was Glastonbury's defensive standout.
South Windsor 16, Enfield Falcons 1. In a game that almost wasn't played due to rain, the fantastic job of the volunteer South Windsor grounds crew ensured the playing of softball on a warm summer evening. South broke open the game in the 4th inning, scoring 10 runs in an inning for the second time this week. Emily Armstrong pitched her second complete game of the week and chipped in with an RBI-single. Steph Belanger, Michelle Scanlon, Sami Sutay and Aubrie Mazur were the offensive stars. For Enfield, Lauren Little pitched very well early, holding onto a 1-run lead over 3 innings. Melissa Rome (2 hits) and Raquel White paced the offense. Taylor Droney played well at first base, with a great unassisted double play.
Suffield 10, Ellington 1. The Suffield U-16 girls defeated Ellington by a score of 10-1 in a well played matchup at Ellington High School. Morgan McPartland and Taylor Brown pitched for Ellington and combined to strikeout eight Suffield batters. Morgan McPartland, Grace Durgan and Jen Spartz led the Ellington offense with Spartz doubling in the 5th inning and scoring on Durgan's line drive single to centerfield. Suffield pitcher Angie Moskwa allowed only three hits, while striking out 11 Ellington batters. The Suffield offense came alive in the 6th inning with 4 runs led by Taryn Scozzari, who was 3 for 4 in the outing, Angie Moskwa, who drove a triple to left field, and Stephanie Fahey, with a line drive up the middle.
Coventry 11, Canton 6. With only eight players available, Coventry outlasted a feisty Canton team by a score of 11 to 6. Given the adverse field conditions, both teams played well defensively. A rain shower before the game and a fifteen minute rain delay in the bottom of the 1st inning made for a very wet field. A special thanks goes out to all the coaches for making the field playable and for keeping the gameballs dry. For Coventry, Susan Blake made several nice catches in the undermanned outfield and Maria Vromans was outstanding at third base. Kaitlin Morton (2 hits, 2 runs scored) provided the offense. Elise Minichiello (1 hit, 2 runs scored), Jillian Goeler (2 RBIs) and pitcher Libby Kain (2 hits) were standouts for Canton.
Windsor 1, Manchester Red 0. Lauren Backhaus pitched a one-hitter, striking out 13, as Windsor blanked Manchester Red 1-0. Kelly O'Brien knocked in the only run of the game for Windsor. Backhaus, Shauna Greene, Shawna Miller, Adrienne Edwards and Jenn Flynn added hits. Emily Koehler had the lone hit for Red. Katie Sirois pitched well and Heather Ferranti and Shannon Klock led the defense.

VernonI 13, Manchester White 0. VernonI remained undefeated, shutting out Manchester White 13-0. Lauren Morency had three hits, including an RBI-triple. Elaina Donofrio had two hits and Allison Burg had a hit, walked three times and scored three runs in the win. Vernon sent 12 batters to the plate in the 4th inning and 11 in the 5th inning. Erin Selavka went the distance, giving up a single to White's Allie Vitkus. Selavka struck out 10 White batters. Taylor Sisson and Julie Boglisch played well for Manchester.
Canton 9, East Windsor 8. (from 6/23) Canton's Libby Kain pitched 1 1/2 innings, striking out three. Brittany King came on in relief and pitched the last six innings, striking out seven. Jillian Goeler played solid defense, catching all 7 innings. Sarah Benedetti had a monster triple and drove in a run. Brittany King had two singles and 2 RBIs. Rose Minichiello went 2-3 with a double, RBI and a run scored. Kelsey Mocadlo pitched a complete game for East Windsor, striking out three. Kayla Wormstedt-Roche played solid defense. Kayla Hersome went 2-3 with two doubles and scored two runs.
Monday, July 14th
VernonI 18, VernonII 0. VernonI defeated VernonII 18-0. Kelly Cocco went three perfect innings in the circle to get the win, striking out seven of the nine batters she faced. Cocco (double, 2 singles) and Aimee Yost (3 singles) led the offense. Kristin Messier (HR, single), Jess Philbrick (triple, double) and Elaina Donofrio (double, single) also had multiple hits in VernonI's 19-hit evening. Messier had an outstanding game behind the plate as Cocco's receiver. Tabitha Turgeon singled off reliever Erin Selavka to spoil the perfect game bid. Amanda Guzman played well and Shantoy Miller was outstanding behind the plate for VernonII.
South Windsor 15, Manchester White 1. South Windsor defeated Manchester white by the score of 15 to 1. Allison Fournier (6 innings) and Aubrie Mazur (1 inning) combined for a 1-hitter with nine strikeouts. Stephanie Belanger led the offense for South with three hits, including two triples. Michelle Scanlon, Catie Holik, Tori Thomson and Fournier each had two hits for South. Manchester was led by standouts Gaby Dube, Trixie Umali and Julie Boglisch.
Coventry 4, Manchester Red 2. Coventry held off a strong Manchester Red team 4-2 in a close, well-played game at Charter Oak Park in Manchester. Both teams played exceptional defense. For Coventry, second baseman Susan Blake turned a heads-up double play and, once again, third baseman Maria Vromans handled every ball hit her way. Manchester Red's Anna DiGregoria made several outstanding catches in right field and also made a great throw to get a batter out at first base. Coventry pounded out 9 hits with Brittany Fowler (2 hits), Lindsay LaChance (double, single) and Maria Vromans (double) leading the way. Anna Piggott, Lauren Mazzoni and Erin Butler had extra-base hits for Red.
Suffield 3, Glastonbury 1. The Suffield U-16 girls defeated Glastonbury by a score of 3-1 in a tight game and close pitching match-up at Addison Park in Glastonbury. Nicki Deskus pitched for Glastonbury, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out 14 Suffield batters. Angie Moskwa earned the win for Suffield, allowing only one run on three hits and striking out 13 Glastonbury batters. Elaina Umbach led the Glastonbury offense, scoring in the 7th inning off a leadoff double. The Suffield offense was led by Kylie Gifford and Alyssa Wagner. Wagner scored in the top of the first, going 2 for 2 at the plate with a walk. Also scoring for Suffield were Kelly Kenney and Lauren Mercik in the top of the 5th inning.
Ellington 6, Somers 5. Ellington defeated visiting Somers by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to win. Kelly McPartland led off the rally with a single followed by hits by Jen Spartz and Joanna DiStefano. Two errors led to the winning run being at second base before Morgan McPartland hit a double to score the winning run. Sam Urbon pitched a good game for Somers, keeping the Ellington batters off balance for most of the game. Becky Barry had a double among two hits and Camille Thomas hit a 2-run homerun.
Windsor 5, West Hartford 2. Lauren Backhaus pitched the win for Windsor, striking out fifteen. Shauna Greene had a triple and Katie Dulz also hit well. Adrienne Edwards did well behind the plate. For West Hartford, Maureen Martucci and Cat Montagino each had a hit and an RBI.

Ellington 12, Enfield Falcons 0. Ellington defeated the visiting Falcons 12-0, beginning with a 6-run first inning. Ellington was led offensively by Jen Spartz, who had four hits, and Marin Cleary, Kelly McPartland, Jocelyn Close and Taylor Brown, who each had two hits. Grace Durgan led the defense with some nice fielding plays at third base. Morgan McPartland pitched a complete game, 4-hit shutout for Ellington. Playing well on defense for the Falcons were Jen Arnone, Sarah Moynihan and Kara Follo.
Manchester Red 7, Manchester White 6. It seems like it is always a nailbiter when the two Manchester teams get together, and this game was no exception. White jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st, only to see Red answer right back with two in the bottom of the inning. Red added a run in the 2nd and 3rd to take a 4-1 lead. White chipped away, scoring two in the 4th to cut the lead to 4-3. After a scoreless 5th and 6th, White plated three runs in the top of the 7th to go ahead 6-4. Red bounced back with three in the bottom of the 7th to take a hard fought 7-6 victory. Trixie Umali pitched well for White, going the distance in the circle. Katie Sirois was equally strong in the circle for Red, going 6 1/3 innings before giving way to Anna Piggott. Ashley Gall, Heather Ferranti and Amanda Landry were key contributors for Red. Kira Shaikh and Natasha Gomes had strong games for White.
VernonI 22, Coventry 1. VernonI improved to 9-0, defeating Coventry 22-1. Erin Selavka and Kelly Cocco combined on a one-hitter. Vernon was led by Elaina Donofrio (3 hits), Aimee Yost (2 hits, HR), Laura Skoly (3 hits) and Chrissy Pettengill (hit, 2 runs scored). Coventry's offense was provided by Caitlin Rauchle. Lindsay LaChance (catcher) and Kaitlin Morton (shortstop) were solid on defense.
South Windsor 20, VernonII 1. South Windsor defeated VernonII 20-1. Allyson Fournier struck out 10 batters and gave up just one hit in four innings. South's high-powered offense was led by Fournier, Michelle Scanlon, Erin O'Brien and Chelsea Toce with three hits each. VernonII was led by Kristin Compolongo with their lone hit. Sarah Carpenter and Shantoy Miller also played well for Vernon.
West Hartford 7, Suffield 0. Courtney Daley pitched a complete game shutout for West Hartford, allowing only three hits along the way. Mallory Martucci tripled and scored twice and Dani Stevens added two hits and called a great game behind the plate. For Suffield, Alyssa Wagner, Angie Moskwa and Samantha Guzzi all had hits.
Windsor 9, Canton 2. Windsor downed Canton 9-2 behind Lauren Backhaus' 12-strikeout pitching. She also helped her cause going 3-4 at the plate. Shauna Greene also went 3-4. Kaiya Hill also batted well and Meredith Atwater continued her nice bunting. Christina Cardwell pitched well for Canton and Olivia Bonini had a good game behind the plate, despite the oppressive heat. Deanna Nappi (double) and Sarah Sapia led the Canton hitters.
Tolland 6, Somers 2. JoJo Meunier's tough Somers tream battled Tolland in a game that was closer than the score indicated. Meunier struck out seven. Alex D'Aloisio (11 Ks) earned the win for Tolland, allowing just a triple by Camille Thomas, who scored on a passed ball. Becky Barry scored the other Somers run, reaching base on a walk. Brittany DeCarli walked and scored three times for Tolland and Allison Whitlock had two singles. Kelsey Arnet and Meghan Ciccarelli each had singles for the winners.
Glastonbury 4, Granby 3. Glastonbury held on for a 4-3 victory over Granby at Addison Park. Amanda Longley pitched the win, striking out nine and allowing only four hits. The offense was led by Alaina Umbach (2 hits, 2 runs scored) and Hayley Hoge (2 runs scored). Granby's offense was led by Kristin Wattenlond (hit, stolen base, run scored). Defensively, Kelsey Walsh made some outstanding plays in the field.
Friday, July 18th
Enfield Falcons 12, Canton 1. (from 7/1) Frankie Nicolini led the Falcon offense, going 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Alyssa Barone and Melissa Rome played great defense. Nicole Batan went 2-3 for Canton. Sarah Benedetti pitched well in relief after a six month layoff and Libby Kain had a good overall game.
Enfield Fireballs 14, East Windsor 3. (from 6/27) Enfield scored seven runs in the first inning, highlighted by two RBIs each from Natalie Kyparidis (2-4) and Shawna Lothian (2-3). East Windsor came back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning as catcher Ginger Starvish was driven in by batterymate Kelsey Mocadlo, who also later scored. Enfield added three more in the second with Katie Schienda driving in a pair with a double, followed by a Courtney Cannella RBI-double. East plated another in the bottom of the 2nd when Kayla Hersom (two hits) drove in Emma Golden, who had doubled. That would conclude the scoring for East but Enfield added another in the third when Jenn Serafin singled and later scored on an East Windsor miscue. After a quiet fourth, Enfield finished their scoring with three more in the 5th inning as Schienda added another RBI-single. Lindsey DeFord finished the game with three doubles and winning pitcher Cara Angeloni struck out five.
Enfield Fireballs 7, East Windsor 2. In game two of the doubleheader, East Windsor started the scoring in the 3rd inning when Kayla Hersom reached on a walk and scored on Ginger Starvish's double. Enfield answered in the bottom of the inning when Christine Scanlon walked and scored on Cari Conley's RBI-single. Conley later scored on Morgan Caswell's (2-2) RBI-single. Enfield plated four more in the bottom of the fourth, then capped their scoring in the fifth after Conley walked and eventually came in to score. East Windsor had some excellant defense from Kassandra King and Melissa Wobble. Winning pitcher Courtney Cannella finished with nine strikeouts.

Monday, July 21st
Glastonbury 6, Windsor 2. Glastonbury played well in a 6-2 victory over Windsor at Addison Park. Amanda Longley had another strong pitching performance, striking out 11 batters. The offense was led by Laura Bishop (single, triple, run scored), Christine Dalton (single, two runs scored), Alaina Umbach (single, run scored) and Michelle Nogas's two perfect bunts which led to two runs scored. Windsor was led by the strong play of Jennifer Flynn and Katie Dulz (double). Lauren Backhaus (11 Ks) pitched well for Windsor and also contributed offensively with a double.
Enfield Fireballs 3, Tolland 2. The Enfield Fireballs outlasted Tolland in a closely played game with Enfield leaving with a 3-2 win. Enfield scored first when Lindsey DeFord led off the game by being hit by a pitch and later scoring. She then ended a Tolland threat in the bottom half of the inning by snaring a linedrive and turning it into an unassisted double play. Tolland tied the game in the 3rd when Ali Whitlock reached on an error and scored and then added another run in the 6th to go ahead on a Karen Duhamel HBP, Alyssa Yavis's single and Rebecca Tourtellotte's RBI-hit. Enfield answered in the top of the 7th when DeFord led off with a triple. Morgan Caswell followed with a bunt and then DeFord scored on Sarah Plizska's bunt single. Caswell then scored the deciding run on a sac fly by Katie Krogmann. Cannella and Cara Angeloni combined for the 3-hit win. Alex D'Aloisio pitched a gem for Tolland, surrendering only three hits and striking out thirteen in the loss.
Ellington 5, East Windsor 4. Ellington defeated East Windsor by a score of 5-4 with the tieing run thrown out at the plate in the 6th inning. Alyssa Deland threw to Joanna DiStefano, who was covering the plate, to tag out the East Windsor runner to end the game. Ellington was led by Taylor Brown, with a triple and a single, Marin Cleary with two hits, and the combined pitching of Morgan McPartland and Joanna DiStefano. East Windsor was led by Kayla Hersom at shortstop, Kayla Wormstedt with a great catch in left field to save three runs, and Lindsay Mulnite at the plate.
VernonI 1, South Windsor 0. Kelly Cocco's RBI-double in the first inning stood up as she shut down the potent South Windsor lineup for the win. Elaina Donofrio led off the first inning with a single, stole 2nd base and then scored on Cocco's double. Cocco gave up two hits to South's Tori Thomson (double, single), struck out six and walked just one. Kristin Messier was outstanding behind the plate. Emily Armstrong pitched a strong game for South Windsor (4 hits, 5 Ks, 0 BBs, 2 HBP). Tori Thomson accounted for South's offense. Erin O'Brien also was a South Windsor standout on the night.
Coventry 15, Manchester White 3. Coventry got their first victory at home, defeating Manchester White 15-3. Susan Blake (homerun, 5 RBIs), Josie LoRicco (triple, single, 3 RBIs) and Emma Polinski (2 singles, 2 RBIs) led the 11-hit attack. Kaitlin Morton and Lindsay LaChance chipped in with two hits apiece. LaChance had another great night behind the plate, throwing out a runner at second base on an attempted steal and picking off a runner at third base. Polinski pitched a complete game, recording eight strikeouts. For White, Allie Vitkus (2 singles, 2 runs scored), Natasha Gomes (single) and Erica Bartle (single) led the offense.
Manchester Red 3, VernonII 2 (8 innings). Manchester Red was very fortunate to edge VernonII 3-2. VernonII jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning, but Manchester answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2. After that Danielle Leone for Manchester and Sarah Carpenter for Vernon locked up in a pitchers' duel for the next five innings. Manchester won the game in the 8th inning on Lindsey Johnson's HBP with the bases loaded. In the 8th for Manchester, Lauren Mazzoni did a great job running the bases, Emily Koehler got down a key bunt and Anna DiGregorio got an infield hit to load the bases. In addition to pitching a strong game for Vernon, Sarah Carpenter also chipped in with a base hit. Kristin Compolongo played strong defense for Vernon and also added a hit and Shantoy Miller had a strong game behind the plate.
Canton 8, West Hartford 5. Christina Cardwell pitched a complete game win for Canton over West Hartford. Tori Biondo played solid at second base, contributing to eight putouts. Nicole Batan and Sonya Haedo had a nice double play with a fly ball to Nicole at shortstop and a quick throw to Sonya at second base. Sarah Sapia went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. West Hartford's Mallory Martucci and Valerie Beyer each had triples and scored a run. Beyer also pitched six innings, recording 10 strikeouts.
Suffield 6, Granby 1. The Suffield U-16 girls defeated Granby by a score of 6-1 at Bruce Park. Katie Kelleher pitched for Granby, allowing eight hits and striking out four. Chloe Frechette scored for Granby in the 5th inning on a line drive single by Angela Petrunti. Lauren Mercik got the win for Suffield, pitching a complete game and giving up just one run while striking out nine. Alyssa Wagner and Julie Muscarella each had two hits. Suffield's winning run was scored by Emma Kubetin in the 4th inning on a single by Muscarella. Also leading the offense for Suffield were Taryn Scozzari, who drove in a run with a double in the 5th, and Kelly Kenney, with a bunt single and aggressine baserunning allowing her to score. Steph Fahey added an insurance run in the 5th after a hard hit single up the middle.

(from 6/18) Georgia Burke and Kayla Stetson hit big for Somers with Georgia driving in one run on a rip through centerfield and Kayla driving in two runs on a bomb out to centerfield. Becky Barry scored a run on a delayed steal of home. Alex D'Aloisio delivered big for Tolland with ten strikeouts. Megan Ciccarelli and Brittany DiCarli both delivered big hits for Tolland.

Enfield Fireballs 7, Enfield Falcons 4. (from 6/16) In the first game of a doubleheader, the Fireballs held on for a 7-4 win. In the completion of a gave previously rained out, the Fireballs built a 4-0 lead. In the first inning, Lindsey DeFord led off with a walk and scored on a Morgan Caswell sacrifice. They added another in the third on a Cara Angeloni single and an RBI-hit by Christine Scanlon. The Fireballs would add two more in the 4th inning on singles by Caswell and Sarah Pliszka and a 2-run double by Natalie Kyparadis. In the bottom of the 5th, the Falcons scored four to tie the game when Frankie Nicolini singled, followed by a Lauren Little single and a 2-run single by Melissa Rome. Jenna Beverly then drew a walk and later scored on a Megan Ceppatelli sacrifice. The Fireballs would finish the scoring in the top of the 7th when Caswell and Pliszka each collected their second singles of the night and would score on an RBI-single by Amanda Meunier followed by Kyparadis' second 2-run double of the game. The Falcons got tremendous defense from third baseman Nicolini, shortstop Rome and catcher Jen Arnone. The Fireballs defense was led by shortstop Pliszka and second basemam DeFord with several nice plays each.
Enfield Fireballs 10, Enfield Falcons 2. (from 7/14) In the second game, the hosting Fireballs started the scoring when Amanda Meunier singled and later scored on a wild pitch. They would strike again in the bottom of the third when a couple of walks and a single loaded the bases for second baseman Lindsey DeFord, who cleared the bases with a triple, her third of the week. She also later scored. In the 4th inning, Jen Arnone would reach base and later score for the Falcons on a Frankie Nicolini double. The Fireballs answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth when catcher Natalie Kyparadis led off with a triple and scored on Courtney Cannella's bases-loaded walk. She also later scored, along with Katie Schienda and Amanda Meunier. In the top half of the 7th, the Falcons scored when Lauren Little single and advanced on a walk to Jen Arnone, followed by an RBI-single by Melissa Rome. It was a well-played defensive game by both teams, with Nicolini and Rome standing out for the Falcons and Pliszka and DeFord for the Fireballs.

Enfield Fireballs 13, Somers 2. In Enfield, the Fireballs beat Somers 13-2. The Enfield offense was led by Morgan Caswell, going 2-2 with 2 RBIs. Pitchers Courtney Cannella (2-3, 2 runs) and Cari Conley (1-3, run, RBI) combined for the win. Enfield also got contributions from Christine Scanlon (2-2, 2 runs) and Amanda Meunier, who hit an out-of-the-park homerun. For Somers, Camille Thomas also homered over the fence & scored two runs. Georgia Burke had a hit and an RBI.
East Windsor 6, Enfield Falcons 3. East Windsor grounded the Falcons 6-3 as Brianna Matteson scored two runs, Melissa Wabble had an RBI-single and Allison Rodrigue played strong defense. For Enfield, Jenna Beverly, Alyssa Barone and Amy Tousignant all played well.
Ellington 4, Tolland 0. Ellington scored three runs in the 2nd inning and held on defensively for a 4-0 win. Ellington was led by Sam Harney (3-3) and Grace Durgan (2 hits). Morgan McPartland pitched a complete game, 2-hit shutout. Alex D'Aloisio struck out twelve for Tolland with Katie Akerley doing a good job behind the plate. Megan Ciccarelli and Bianna Penney each had a hit.
Granby 9, Windsor 8. Granby came from behind, scoring four in the 6th and five in the bottom of 7th inning to steal the 9-8 win against Windsor. Sara Hammick had a bases-loaded single to drive in two runs in the 6th. In the 7th, Addie Koehler and Katelyn Sayles started the Granby rally with singles and then Nadine Foster had the big hit, driving in two. For Windsor, April Flores reached safely in all four at-bats with three walks and a single and also made a nice catch in right field. Kaetlin Perry had a 2-RBI single in the 6th as Windsor built a 5-run lead before the Granby rally.
West Hartford 15, Glastonbury 1. Val Beyer pitched earned the win for West Hartford, allowing the one run on two hits. Carrie Corrigan and Dani Stevens both had 2-run triples and marisa Taddei had three hits. Starter Amanda Longley pitched well for Glastonbury. Nicky Deskus came in to pitch a scoreless 5th inning.
South Windsor 2, Manchester Red 1.

Tuesday, July 29th
Ellington 6, VernonII 4. (from 6/23) Ellington and VernonII played scoreless until Ellington got three runs in the 4th and 5th innings for a 6-0 lead. Vernon held defensively and then made a 4-run comeback in the bottom of the 7th that ran just short of outs. Vernon's Kassandra Wemmell and Kristin Compolongo each had a triple and Taylor Kurowski contributed a hit. Courtney Carver had two hits for Ellington. Kailyn Lundeberg Christina DiStefano and Taylor Brown each had a hit. Morgan McPartland got the complete game win. Sarah Carpenter took the loss in a good effort.
West Hartford 16, East Windsor 5. (from 7/24) Val Beyer pitched a complete game, allowing no hits, and had two singles at the plate. Maureen Martucci had two hits, including a homerun, and 3 RBIs. Mallory Martucci reached base three times and had two hits and two RBIs. Julia Matteson was the starting pitcher for East Windsor. Emma Golden caught the complete game. Melissa Wabble reached base twice, drove in a run and scored a run.

Wednesday, July 30th
Tolland 8, Enfield Falcons 0. Tolland defeated a young Enfield team behind Alex D'Aloisio's 12 strikeouts. She also doubled and scored two runs. Katie Akerley caught for Tolland and scored two runs with two singles. Kelsey Kaplan, Kelsey Lewis, Meghan Ciccarelli and Brittany DeCarli all had hits, with Ciccarelli and DeCarli scoring runs. For Enfield, Lindsay Droney had the lone single and Nicole Delano hit the ball hard. Haley Hartzell pitched well for the Falcons but took the loss.
Manchester White 8, VernonII 5. With only seven players, Manchester White managed to best VernonII by a score of 8 to 5. Allie Vitkus threw a 5-hitter with five strikeouts and also went 3 for 4 at the plate with two doubles and a triple. Manchester's only outfielder, Erica Bartle, along with Stephanie Dumond, Sarah Bonino and Kira Shaikh in the infield, combined to lead Manchester defensively. Taylor Sisson had an outstanding hit to left field that helped White score a run. Michelle Grabowski helped lead Manchester to the win, catching the entire game. For Vernon, Kristen Compolongo helped offensively with two doubles, while Kassandra Wemmell and Shannon Fish both had RBIs.
Ellington 3, Enfield Fireballs 1. Ellington extinguished the Fireballs by a score of 3-1. Morgan McPartland led the way for Ellington with a dominating pitching performance, striking out fifteen, and at the plate with two hits and the game-winning RBI. Taylor Brown and Grace Durgan each had two hits and Grace played a great defensive third base. Megan Potamianos had a key hit to get the first run into scoring position. Enfield was led by Sarah Pliszka with an RBI hit, Amanda Meunier, who doubled to the fence, and Lindsey DeFord with an outstanding game at second base and a key defensive catch late in the game.
West Hartford 12, Granby 3. Courtney Daley earned the win, pitching a complete game, striking out five and giving up just four hits. Allie Stevens had two hits and played very well defensively in centerfield. Maureen and Mallory Martucci each had a hit and three RBIs. For Granby, Desi Piette singled in the 7th inning to break up the no-hitter. Addie Koehler and Angela Petrunti had RBI-singles in the 7th inning.
Suffield 9, Windsor 0. The Suffield U-16 girls defeated Windsor 9-0 at Bruce Park. Offensive standouts for Windsor were April Flores and Kaetlin Perry, each getting a hit in the second and third innings. Angie Moskwa earned the shutout win for Suffield, allowing only two hits and striking out 13 batters. Kayla Nadeau, Taryn Scozzari and Alyssa Wagner each scored twice for Suffield, with Nadeau and Wagner each driving in a run and Wagner going 2 for 2 at the plate.

Thursday, July 31st
Somers 15, Windsor 4. (from 7/23) Nina Varney and Alison Mendola delivered some strong hittig for Windsor with an RBI each. Beacky Barry played exceptional defense at third base for Somers, anticipating three bunts, each with a putout, and making a diving catch on a bunt that was popped up in front of the plate.
Enfield Fireballs 12, West Hartford 4. (from 7/23) The Enfield Fireballs beat West Hartford 12-2 behind Sarah Pierce and Christine Scanlon, who both went 1-2 and scored three runs. Defensively the Fireballs were led by shortstop Sarah Pliszka and second baseman Lindsey DeFord. West Hartford got strong performances offensively from Dani Stevens (triple, run scored), Mallory Martucci (hit, run scored) and Carrie Corrigan (2 hits). Defensively, shortstop Maureen Martucci was outstanding, making some nice plays in the field.
Friday, August 1st
Granby 4, Manchester Red 3. Granby beat Manchester Red in a very well played and exciting game 4-3. For Granby, Katie Jones came in to relieve an injured Nadine Foster in the 2nd inning and pitched 2-hit ball the rest of the way. Sara Hammick drove in three of the Granby runs with a 2-run double and a sacrifice fly. Jennalee Kulig played well in centerfield for Granby. Katie Sirois and Amanda Landry each had hits and scored runs for Red and Anna DiGregorio played well in the field.
Glastonbury 16, Canton 1. (from 7/30)
Somers 5, VernonII 2. (from 7/24)
Tolland 8, East Windsor 6. (played in East Windsor; continuation of suspended game of June 16th) Tolland came back from a 6-3 deficit to win in the conclusion of a game suspended by rain on June 16th.
Tolland 4, East Windsor 1. (from 7/14) Alex D'Aloisio picked up the win for Tolland over East Windsor, allowing just 4 hits and striking out twelve. She and Katie Akerley, Rebecca Tourtellotte, Alayna Zevallos, Alyssa Yavis and Kelsey Arnet had hits. Kelsey Mocadlo and Allie Riches led the East Windsor offense and Kayla Hersom played well defensively.

Monday, August 4th
Ellington 10, Manchester White 5. (from 7/23) Manchester White and Ellington traded runs through the 5th inning for a 7-5 Ellington lead. The Ellington defense then shutdown White for a 10-5 decision. Ellington pitcher Joanna DiStefano (15 Ks and 3-3 at the plate) got help from Jen Spartz (2 hits, 2 runs), Christina DiStefano (2 hits, 3 runs), Taylor Brown (2 hits) and Jocelyn Close (2 hits, 2 runs). Manchester's Erica Bartle (2 runs), Kira Shaikh (2 hits, 2 runs) and Allie Vitkus (2 hits) led the White hitters.
Suffield 1, VernonI 0. (from 6/23) The Suffield U-16 girls defeated VernonI by a score of 1-0 in a close match-up at Suffield High School. Erin Selavka pitched well for Vernon, allowing only four hits and one run. Jessica Bonneville and Jamie Vallarelli were standouts for Vernon at the plate. Angie Moskwa earned the win Suffield, allowing just two hits and fanning thirteen Vernonites. She also scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the 2nd inning and went 2 for 2 at the plate. Maggie Reeves and Alyssa Wagner also had hits for Suffield.
Windsor 6, West Hartford 5 (8 innings). Windsor beat West Hartford 6-5 in an exciting game with the international tie breaker rule being used after West Hartford tied the game in the 5th inning. Great bunting by Kaitlin Perry, Meredith Atwater and Katie Dulz enabled Windsor to push across the deciding run in the top of the 8th inning. Lauren Backhaus pitched well for Windsor, recording 17 strikeouts. Zoe Mendal drove in two runs and scored one for West Hartford.
Coventry 18, VernonII 3. (from 7/28) Coventry broke open the game by scoring six runs in the 3rd and seven runs in the 4th inning. Lindsay LaChance continued her torrid hitting with a 5 for 5 game that included a double, two triples and 6 RBIs. The Coventry offense pounded out 17 hits, with everyone in the lineup having at least one hit. Emma Polinski pitched a complete game, striking out eight and walking three. Sarah Carpenter and Courtney Lyons each had two hits for VernonII.

Wednesday, August 6th
Suffield 8, Glastonbury 1. The Suffield U-16 girls defeated Glastonbury by a score of 8-1 thanks to the tireless efforts of the Suffield grounds crew, who managed to get the field ready despite the uncooperative weather. Angie Moskwa earned the win, scattering 6 hits and striking out eight. She also led the Suffield offense, going 3 for 3 at the plate with two doubles and three runs scored. Staphanie Fahey and Emma Kubetin also shone offensively for Suffield, with Fahey going 2 for 2 at the plate and Kubetin hitting a line drive to right field during the third inning. Lindsey Rader led the Glastonbury offensive drive, going 2 for 2 at the plate and getting into scoring postion twice.
Granby 9, Canton 4. (from 8/3) Granby beat Canton 9-4 in a game moved to Canton due to wet field conditions in Granby. A sudden downpour caused puddles too numerous to remove but Canton was able to get their field ready to play on due to the hard work of their team. Katie Kelleher and Katie Jones combined for a 3-hitter, striking out nine in the process. Granby opened the game with a 7-run first inning but could manage only two more runs after that. Jillian Goeler and Cailee Murphy each had hits and RBI's for Canton and Nicole Batan made some exceptional plays at shortstop.
Coventry 4, Tolland 3 (8 innings). (from 7/23) Coventry's Lindsay LaChance roped a game-winning triple in the bottom of the 8th inning as Coventry edged Tolland 4-3. Coventry's Emma Polinski (6 strikeouts, 1 walk, 8 hits) and Tolland's Alex D'Aloisio (16 strikeouts, 6 walks, 3 hits) engaged in a classic pitcher's duel as the scored was tied 1-1 after 7 innings. With the international tie breaker in effect, Tolland scored two runs in the top of the 8th on a sacrifice fly by Kelsey Arnet and an RBI-single by Brianna Penney. Coventry stormed right back to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the 8th with an RBI-single by Kaitlin Morton, who ended up scoring on the play with the help of some miscues in the field. Susan Blake then battled to earn a key walk and scored the game-winning run on LaChance's triple. Coventry's Caitlin Rauchle (single, run scored) also had a great game. For Tolland, catcher Kim Tanguay (single, run scored), Karen Duhamel (single) and Brianna Penney (single, RBI) were standouts.

Thursday, August 7th
Suffield 9, Canton 6. (from 7/28) The Suffield U-16 girls defeated Canton by a score of 9-6 in a close match-up at Dyer Field in Canton. A special thanks to the Canton volunteers who managed to get the field in shape for the game in spite of the heavy rain throughout the afternoon. Christina Cardwell pitched well for Canton, allowing only five hits. Cardwell also helped herself out with a hit and scoring a run in the bottom of the 1st inning. Canton's offense was led by Jessie Schroeder, going 4 for 4, including a double, and scoring a run. Olivia Bonini was a defensive standout behind the plate for Canton, throwing out two Suffield runners at second. Kasey Gifford and Angie Moskwa shared the pitching duties for Suffield, with Gifford striking out five over three innings and Moskwa striking out eight in four well-pitched innings. The Suffield offense was led by Kelly Kenney and Julie Muscarella, both going 2 for 2 and both scoring twice.
